How to remove this?

I need to remove the kick panels so I can access the bottom of my sunroof drains. How do I remove this? Is it a fastener? Can I just pull it straight out?

Unscrew it i think.

Yes, unscrew it.

On the driver’s side, that black thing is under the black plastic footrest, which pops off pretty easily.

Yup, unscrew it even though it seems like it will pop off. It won't. Unscrew, then pop off.
