How to remove "worst smell ever"

My mom spilled fish sauce in my daily driver car. Thanks God it was not in my 4runner. I cleaned the spot (big one) and the seat with Bissell hand held carpet cleaner. A week later, the smell got worst and worst. It was so strong and bad that I afraid to open the door. BTW, I have all windows have been rolled down.

I have not driven the car since the spillage accident. I am at lost. There is no word in hell that I am seat in that car again with the smell still there and don't even think of driving it.

Please help and I need serious help to remove the smell.

I feel your pain...my mom spilled some kimchee juice in my Jeep once...thankfully it wasn't the 4runner. But it probably wasn't as bad a smell as fish sauce...and it eventually went away after several cleaning sessions. I used a combination of dish soap and lysol. Now I make here double wrap any kind of food item.

After two weeks (I think) of vinegar in the car, the smell reduce but still there. Last weekend, I managed to remove the seat and steam cleaning the carpet. It is better now. Hopefully, I can use the car next week. I took the seat out and hosed it down with detergent like crazy.

I'd like to know if you find the magic method of removing bad smells. A half open packet of cream cheese got left in the Tundra one weekend camping and melted all over the carpet. It has been shampooed, scrubbed with all sorts of carpet cleaners, etc and has never completely gone away. When it gets hot (like 90+) out the smell starts to seep back out and this is a year later. Good luck!

Did you try Febreeze? If that didn't work, try the following products:

Kids 'n Pets (should be able to find at supermarkets)

Meguiar's Odor eliminator (may have to buy online)

I've used both with pretty good results. I would follow up with some shampooing and maybe some sort of steam cleaning. I've used this machine (Little Green (R) Deep Cleaner) with great results on spot treatments. If the sauce penetrated the seat foam, it may be REALLY tough to get it out.

I saw this product on "Shark Tank" earlier this evening: Odor eliminator PureAyre eliminates cat, pet, smoke, skunk, cigars, gasoline, cooking and musty odors.

Never used it, but it might be worth a try.

Finally, I eliminate about 95% of the smell. I placed two bowls of vinegar with a tower in each bowl in the car for 2 weeks. The vinegar helped a lot.

I removed the seat and washed it with soap. I washed it with the hose NOT steamed clean it. I steamed clean the carpet 3 times.

I placed an air freshener in the car. The smell "went away" but I still can smell it if I roll the windows up and it is hot outside (80 degree).

Throw a bag of charcoal in the back, it will absorb the smell.

Pour Baking Soda, let it sit for a few hours & vacuum it.

It worked for my 2001 Accord, but didn't work for my dad's 2003 Camry.

His car smelled like ARMPIT!!

Another trick to remove odor that I've heard...cut an apple in half and just let it sit in the vehicle facing up in the sun.

SOAK the truck in Fa breeze I mean soak it then let it air out. It will help and is a cheap method..

But you may still catch a wiff of the fish sauce

You might want to pull the carpet, rip off the jute, take it to the carwash and hit it with the degreaser and then the foaming brush, then rinse really well. Leave the carpet in the sun for an afternoon and it should be dry. Get some new jute and go to town.

Get this stuff in the link below GENESIS 950 It WILL take the smell out and make the carpet cleaner than it's ever been. I have mentioned it many times here for others talking about smells and stains that can't be removed. This stuff has taken anything out I've ever used it on.

Everytime I use it I say to myself... damn I can't believe it actually got that spot out.

ive heard of a product which kills the bacteria that produces the smell. i believe its some kind of enzyme that actually feeds on the bacteria and elimanates it, hope this helps. or you can do what SJC said but i'd advice using a gallon and not a half gallon, better yet use two .
