How to replace electrical clip for headlamps

I have a 2004 4 runner .

How do I remove the electrical wires from the old electrical connector that goes between the wires and the new light bulb ?

My old retaining clip has the retaining mechanism between the connector and bulb broken off.

Is there a tool that allows you to push in the retaining triangle and pull it off ?

A picture might help better explain.

If the issue is what I think it is- the easiest thing would be to cut the wires and splice in a new headlight bulb socket
