how to tell what features I have

This has been bugging me every since we bought the 4runner. Because the paper was not descriptive, how do I tell what features were available (when it was made) and what I actually have? I know I have a sunroof, that's kinda obvious..

The most I know is that its a v8, sunroof, and rear mirrors on the column.

Any help would be very appreciated!

A Toyota dealer can run your VIN through their computer and tell you what options were installed on your particular truck.

Somebody a while back posted a link that toyota has that you can put in your VIN and it will tell you.

I think this is the VIN decoder mentioned if I remember correctly. Be warned though, I typed my VIN and the result was not completely accurate. It classified my 4runner as 2WD when in fact it is 4WD.

What year and trim is your 4Runner? We can tell you some of the things it came with if you tell your fellow forum members.

I emailed toyota and requested a build sheet for my VIN, I believe from here:

They replied with the following list of options on my vehicle.

17" Aluminum Wheels w/P265/65r 17 Tires
Sr5 Appearance Package Color-Keyed over fenders, front & rear bumpers, cladding & rear license plate garnish, fog lamps
Double Decker cargo system w/cargo net
Black roof rack & cross bar
50 State Emissions
Curtain & Side Airbags w/slideable sunvisors w/illumination
115v Ac Power Point
Leather steering wheel & shift knob w/cruise control & audio switches
Power tilt/slide moon roof

Any dealer could pull this info too, but they'll probably try to find some way to charge you for it.

That VIN decoder is a little off. It's not detecting all of the subtle differences between cars and SUV's/trucks.

great! thanks alot, now i know a few things. But is there anyway to tell what packages i have?

someone asked what year and trim, all i know is that its a 2003 sr5, v8, sunroof, and rear column mirrors (i think thats a feature unless its just standard).

The rear column mirrors are standard, unless you have the JBL sound system. Then they become speakers

tough one! surround sound or something to help you back up..

There is a sticker in the drivers side door jam area that will tell you when your 4Runner was built.

As far as packages, the 4Runner does not have grouped option packages. It has 3 trim levels (SR5, SPORT, & Limited) with individual options added. It may be a pain, but your best bet may be to just read the owners manual. It will become obvious what you have and do not have.

No, there is no such thing as packages from Toyota for the 4Runner. Each option is available individually. However, the regional distributor may order different option combinations and call them packages.

As an example, it could be a base SR5 without any options, package A would add side airbags, B could add 17" rims and side airbags, C could add B plus JBL sound, etc.

The packages called "Package A", "B", etc., can change monthly so they will vary over time. The dealers don't use the names like "Package A"; those names are really only meaningful on the Toyota Web site at the time you see them there.
