How to thaw washer bottle

So you're saying I should ditch the Texas juice that is in there for something a little beefier before my trip to Indiana next week?

Yes, unless you like a challenging drive. Best case scenario is your squirters get frozen and you can't pump the fluid. Worst case is somehow they don't freeze and you end up spraying a nice sheet of ice on your windshield while driving, lol.

Either pump out all the current fluid and refill with a bottle of de-icer fluid (I've had great luck with Prestone de-icer fluid). Or go and try to find a de-icer additive you can just mix into your current fluid.

Ha! Oh yeah. It takes very little time to drain out the bottle if you run both the F & R washers. It takes a whole gallon to refill it too - I just did it.
 
There's nothing more scary than barreling down a highway at 60mph, having salt and ice sprayed onto your windshield, blinding you, then pulling the washer/wiper stalk and... nothing happens.

The engine heat thaws the sprayers and lines quicker than the bottle, BTW...

Yes, but not while moving though. Sitting still warming up the vehicle the engine heat will thaw your washer fluid tank and lines. Moving down the highway the engine heat won't get to the tank due to the circulation of cold air.
[MENTION=85512]eddiebx[/MENTION]: Try some of the RainX orange fluid. At 70 mph and rain or snow you don't even have to use the wipers and it won't leave residue on the windshield like traditional RainX. Ask [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] as he has converted to the RainX orange fluid too.

Yup- awesome stuff. Using my wipers during bad weather on the freeway is pretty much optional at this point. The rain simply beads up and rolls right off.

Pshhh, this is how I roll: Rain Repellent Glass Treatment - Aquapel Glass Treatment

Amazing stuff, so amazing, I aquapelled every exterior glass surface including the mirrors and moonroof, lol. (OCD is going to be the death of me :()

I actually did try the orange stuff years back, for some reason it left some strange smeary residue on the paint (totally harmless though, washes right off)

But if you guys like the rain-x effect, you really should give that aquapel a try. I promise you will not be disappointed!

Glad you got it fixed without cracking a pump casing or any other mishap.

Something else you can try; throw a drop light, with a 100watt incandescent bulb, in the engine compartment, or hang it below (not under) the washer bottle. The heat from the bulb will get things toasty quick but not too quick.

Just had a "snow storm" down here in VA Beach (3-4" fell lol) but temps were in the low teens. Wife was driving my 4runner and told me we were out of fluid. So i went to top it off this morning with the de-icer only to find less then half the bottle fit. What was in the reservoir has to be frozen because nothing is coming out. Guess ill have to figure something out to melt this crap the stealership put in....
 
You will be hard pressed to find a heated garage any where in southern VA :P . It got up close to 40 today...parked in the sun. We will see after work if things thawed out...
