I think when the previous owner replaced the alternator that maybe the pulled the distributor out to change it. I need help timing this thing. Any info would help. Thanks.

Whats the timing set at now? Does it run?

Download the factory service manual available in a stick at the top of the forum. It will tell you how to do it.

Jump the t1 and te1 terminals in the underhood diagnostic connector, the set timing. The timing spec should be on the emissions decal under the hood.

With that being said... Factory timing is 10* but you can advance it up to about 15 for a little extra power.

Depending on how far out it is, '90 used a fixed tensioner for the timing belt, and the belts tend to jump a tooth sometimes....might check cam timing as well and at the very least, readjust the belt tensioner.

Ok the timing was perfect. I will check the mass air flow meter next. My luck the most expensive part will fix it. I do notice that with my foot in it it is rough but as soon as I left off the gas it clears up runs nice and smooth. It also idles around 1000 rmps.

The mass air flow meter seemed to have fixed the issue. I am checking my fuel mileage to see if it has improved. I sure hope so.

when advancing the timing on the 3.0, i've heard some guys say you can do it safely to 15, other guys say that the 3.0 hates being around that 15 range and will blow head gaskets, and instead to advance to 18, any one done either?

18* is way too much, you would need 110 octane to "maybe" keep it from pinging. 15*= super 10*=regular. Advance to what your wallet can handle.
