How to turn OFF Tire Pressure Monitoring system

Anyone know how to turn it off?

Not an answer I know, but I found this very informative article on the Tirerack site:

I didn't know that the systems are now gov't mandated. I'm of two minds on this. I know most people never check their tire pressure which leads to many accidents. On the other hand, I feel like it's more misguided gov't meddling which I never like.

No guarantees, but according to the wiring manuals I believe you can simply unplug the 16 pin connector from the Tire Pressure Monitor ECU. Pin 6 of that connector (pink/black) controls the indicator light. The light should go on if you tie pin 6 to battery and off if you tie pin 6 is grounded (or floats).

The TPM ECU is located behind/below the lower glove box area.

yeah i disconnected the flasher relay that is under the glove box and it still didn't shut off. I think one member on yotatech tried diconnecting it the system from the ECU and it still didn't turn off.

Yeah i chaged my rims to the tundra 20"s and I have to live with that stupid light on my dash.

If you are determined to disable this safety system, if all else fails you could disconnect the warning bulb.

Uh, not the flasher relay -- that has nothing to do with the TPM. You need to disconnect the TPM ECU. Accorind to the wiring manual, that will kill the light. If the light stays on, then short the pin I mentioned to ground.

@Koz: I like your thinking, simple and to the point. I'm so used to involved solutions I completely missed the obvious one.

If you changed the rims you should be able to just re-install the sensors,
they just screw into the valve stem holes.

The tire knockers have to be careful or they will break them when the dismount the tires.
