How to use a VSS TAcoma speed sensor on a 4runner? Speedo died

I recently was involved in an accident and my axle housing was bent, I had to get a new (non abs) axle so my 2000 4runner is having issues with the speedo, sometimes it works fine and hit a bump and it dies until I stop completely, I´ve read about the tcase VSS sensor from the tacoma but im looking some insight about the P/N and wiring needed for the speedo to work again

My wife did this on her '96 when she initially put on manual hubs. They didn't have ABS sensors and the ABS system feed to the speedo/ODO would act exactly like you describe, start off working, then fail at speed, often in conjunction with a bump. And only 'reengage' if you stop.

She used info from here: 3rd gen 4runner/ functioning speedo without wheels speed sensors | Pirate 4x4

After a bit, she had the hubs rebuilt and had the ABS sensor wheels added in and her ABS works again, but she's still using the Taco VSS because it seems to run the speedo a bit more accurately with the 33" tires.

Thanks for the reply, I was reading the guide you provided but could not find any P/N so I just bought this from ebay as the OEM part is kinda expensive and did not find a decent deal for a used part, here is what I got BFC OE Vehicle Speed Sensor OUTPUT SHAFT For Toyota 95-12 Tacoma/00-05 Tundra MT | eBay

a friend who did the mod as well said that it is the 2nd gen runner/ Tacoma sensor but it requires a 32 teeth gear does the part I mentioned looks like the one your wife installed?

Could you tell me if the generic sensor I got from ebay is (looks) the same as the OEM, vendor could not confirm if the piece has 32 teeth.
