How to Use Remote Start?

Can someone tell me how to use the remote start using the key? I have foprgotten how to start my T4R remotely using the key and can not find instruction anywhere in the manuals or going through toyotaowners.com. I recently moved to Colorado and never used it while I lived in Oregon. Now, the truck sits outside while I wait to move into my new home. With morning temps in the teens and single digits, it would be nice to warm the engine (and my fanny heaters :) ) before getting in the truck.

Hit lock twice, then hold down a third time for about 5 secs. Lights will flash five times (I think) and car will start.

Lights just flash.
Very tricky on the timing of the remote lock button press.

I found that I have to hold my button down after the third time for several seconds (more than 5) before the starter engages. The lights will flash a few seconds after the third beep and a few more after the flash before the starter kicks in. Maybe it seems like a long time or the battery in my key fob is weak, but it will eventually start. Just keep holding the button down until it does.

You should only have to press lock twice, and that's it. You don't have to press and hold anything. The lights should blink twice confirming that you've pressed twice. About 3-5 seconds later, the engine will start.

My remote does not work in that manner. Pressing the lock twice activates the door locks twice. It does nothing to try and start the engine. Mine works as described by BFLAN above. I just need to make sure I hold the button through the flashing lights until the engine starts.

Small Radius

I have a 2010 SR5 and my fob to remote start only works about 4 car lengths away. Is this normal? Also, since when I unlock the 4-runner to get it in and the ignition turns off, it is almost worthless (based on the small coverage area of the remote start).

is there anything to check to see if you have the OEM remote start? I guess besides trying the key..

EDIT nevermind, don't have it of course

Why not just have a button?

Seems mine is 3 and hold the 4th but I could be wrong. I just want to know why if it has remote start that they just don’t have the darn button on the remote! I get it with aftermarket stuff but isn’t this OEM?
