Howdy, and San Diego beginner trails?

Anza-Borrego, of Course

Did Arroyo Seco Del Diablo a few months ago. There's a nice little tight spot that my stock first-gen with bald tires (at that time) did :).
Then my friends went down the Diablo Drop-off (here). I think stock 4WD can also do it but I did not try with my bald tires.

On the topic of this thread, spent the weekend out in Anza Borrego. There are tons of really fun and scenic trails out there that are very easy and a great way to get your feet wet.

[MENTION=114745]YetiX[/MENTION] Thanks a bunch. Just put the gobi rack and light bar up about 14 days ago. It's my daily driver as I'm only about 8 miles from work. We head out to Utah/Zion and the surrounding area at the end of the month to get some more scratches on the paint and break in the rack.
Anza is next before summer really hits and it gets too hot out there.

I am hoping to get out and visit Anza the weekend of 24 MAR. Anyone willing to tag along? Heading out with a buddy and his FJ. Were mostly stock, no rock climbing shenanigans.

I'm definitely down for some beginner weekend warrior trails. I've done Otay Truck and Espinosa Trail . . . also bounced around on the other side of the bombing range from Plaster City. I'm a newby, but ready. . . would love to hit Painted Gorge.
 
Went to do Lusardi or Black Mountain last weekend and they were both closed despite the nice weather and being posted as open on the National Forest webpage. So, boo.

Anybody going out this weekend?
 
Any of you San Diego locals interested in leading a trail run on 7/7. Would be cool to meet up with new people and check out the area. So far it’s a stock Chevy and myself. Hope to hear from you guys
 
New member here. I’ve got a new 2018 TRD premium that I’ve taken to pine valley, choral canyon, and la Posta/Fred canyon so far... all pretty mild but fun, waiting for sliders before doing Espinosa trail and stuff in Anza....

For Espinoza, I'd worry more about your paint than needing sliders.
 
Is Espinosa that over grown? And how do people feel about trail trimming around here? I bought the 4runner so each dent and scratch is mine. I don’t understand the point of a lease. I went to the Corte Madera staging area and the trail to that point was just tons of small rocks.

Last time I went, it was pretty overgrown. I got a LOT of new pinstripes. Fortunately, my 4Runner is silver so they don't show unless you look closely. This picture is from when I got home:

Howdy all! Just moved from N. Cali to Carlsbad. Have had my "Ski Tahoe" Runner for maybe 10 years now, it turned 20 this year! Haven't felt the need to work on it, it just goes and goes. (190K now) Love it, but thinking of either upgrading it or trading it in for a newer one next year for my 50th bday. Not sure I like the new trucks angry look, but it might grow on me. I'd be up for some easy hill runs or a brewery meet up, can do weekdays or weekends. Would be great to see some new and old Yotas!
 
welcome to SD! where in carlsbad? you are close to so many good breweries... booze bros, bagby, burgeon, beach grease... lots of Bs. do yourself a favor tho and head to societe. best brewery in SD.

pick up a 2010-12 model, they have the less angry headlights.

Breweries? I can't find one in the SD area! HAHA!

We are right off El Camino, between La Costa and Poinsettia exits. Near the library, close to Encinitas. We went to the Carlsbad Street Fair in May, a friend invited us to the Hennessey's Tavern beer garden. WOW WHAT A PARTY!! We got there for lunch and almost closed the place down! That was a lot of beer, our Uber driver home had fun with us. We almost had him take us to my wife's office in Del Mar, we almost didn't notice he had passed our exit.

I've been doing a lot of Runner reading, think I just need to get my hands on some of these newer Runners and if one strikes my fancy. Might stroll through a dealership or two.. I really like mine, just need to fix the leaking axle seal and some more preventative maintenance if I'm going to keep it..

Are there any 4x4 beaches down here or is that only in Mexico and Pismo? I had friends in the Poly Goats 4x4 club at CAL POLY back in the day, we camped out on Pismo dunes one 4th of July! YIKES, that was some fireworks! (And a magnesium engine block on fire) That place gets crazy! Can you even legally drink on any SD beaches? CHEERS!
 
No legal drinking on the beaches but some places you can get away with it. Also no 4x4 beach driving unless you head to Mexico or Pismo like you said

hennessey's is bro central. former high school jock central. o'sullivan's (formerly tom giblin's) is the spot around the village. pizza port, then o'sullivan's for a good night.

Anyone else going to Kaaboo in Sept? Our house is already booked up for that weekend, 4 friends coming to town for it. The lineup is pretty insane if you're into 80's and 90's music! Blondie and Billy Idol are even there! LOL
