Howto: Install right side steering wheel controls

Just installed this today, have had it for a while. (this is for information only, do it at your own risk)

1. remove neg battery
2. starting point.

3. Remove these panels on the side by gently prying the side closet to you.

4. Remove the two T30 screws which hold the airbag (see above)
5. Remove the airbag

6. Remove the two screws which hold the buttons sets down
7. Install the ribbon wire.

8. Put everything back in reverse order.

Maybe half way through he realized that installing the switch is easier than changing oil and really didn't need a step by step to remove 3 screws and plug in a cable?:bluejump:

I'll add a few more pics, I skipped a few steps figuring it covered all the key steps and this isn't a super difficult mod. I did realize I didn't include a finished product so I went back out to take a shot of that but it was too dark.

I'll do a rewrite since many do have some level of interest. I did have surgery last week, guess the pain meds did have an effect, good thing this didn't require heavy machinery

I appreciate any "write up" anybody does. This is what makes an owner forum very cool. I Hope Honda_nos finishes this write up. Anyway, it must be said that just plugging in the right hand controls WILL NOT give you Bluetooth. Its more complicated than that. Additional wires have to be connected, and not to mention the HU has to be BT ready (factory).

NOTE: After installing the buttons, turn your lights on to make sure the buttons light up. If not, you either have them connected wrong or the ribbon cable is defective. Been there, done that

what does the right side control, mine only has controls on the left

Right side would control the bluetooth phone if your truck was equipped and voice control. Only 2006-2009 4th gens with factory nav got this. Installing the buttons alone does not allow you to use those functions. You need to install the microphone for voice control and buy an updated Toyota nav with bluetooth (the bluetooth is built into the screen) for that.

The head unit has bluetooth functionality that works perfectly. The left side steering wheel controls work fine as well. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance

:sleepy:Man I was so lost, I thought I was going to see how to make left hand drive car a right hand drive. Take out some screws install ribbon. Done in seven steps. I finally got it. Reading before bed my mind was foggy.

I am thinking about getting a Pioneer NEX series head unit with Car Play. Did anyone get these controls to work? Would be really nice to have the Bluetooth button on the wheel for taking calls with Car Play. Apple just released an update for CarPlay that even lets you syncs wirelessly now.
