Thai did you not read about how the US arrested the leaders of Volkswagen and then that other time they arrested FIFA leadership... See here in America they only arrest the CEOs of foreign companies for fraud.

I think this is really going to blow up things with China. She was a Sr. executive at one of China's most prominent global companies and a daughter of someone in their leadership.

I don't think China will take well to this move at all.

Please tell me again why we aren't locking up the executives of American companies that commit fraud?

Remember how not a single US banker went to jail for the massive fraud that was the US financial crisis of 2008....
 
Chinese technology is gaining ground all over the developing world. The US companies have to follow stringent exporting laws which include embargos levied against Iran and other nations and China wants to undermine USA dominance while increasing their own influence but that is to be expected. Graham Allison's book is a good read on this subject

Kidding aside...IF this CFO did use American technology and sold it to Iran despite international ban due to Iran’s terrorist activity, then this is bigger than bank fraud or Martha Steward insider trading.

This is Huawei going around international laws...AGAIN. This is not the first time they commit this crap. Their counterpart ZTE did it earlier this year.

EVEN if my stocks tank because of trade war, i support this 110%. You have to play hardball with the Chinese.

one does need to play hardball with the chinese, but the fact is it RARELY ever amounts to anything more than posturing and verbal agreements that amount to something until the news cycle moves on and then everyone forgets about it allowing it to sink into the background and amount to NOTHING.

They sell their product everywhere, to everyone, hell I have a Telmex router and guess who it was manufactured by???? Huawei...

Everyone wants "Made in America" until they see the price tag, hence why Chinese manufacturers (huawei, ZTE, etc.) are stealing the IP and slapping their affordable pricetags on it and continuing to take the lion share (or should i say tiger share? lol)

I think that USA is using her (CFO) as bargaining chip in the trade wars, which i again support. Maybe bad for stocks in the short run, but getting China under control will benefit USA in the long run.

it will. i mean any chip is better than no chip, but whether this will come of anything who knows?

and stocks are historically proven to bounce back (as long as the country or countries survive) which in this case i think is pretty solid.

I was listening to the radio and they described the US move to arrest her as "typical Chinese government move" meaning this is the kind of thing the Chinese govt usually does to intimidate it's critics.

This is the same country that is literally implementing that Black mirror episode about social media scores for citizens.

In my opinion the US could take make more serious moves right away .... TO LAST TEN YEARS:
* Ban all Chinese ownership of US companies
* Ban all Chinese research students from the US
* Ban US companies from selling certain technologies to Chinese companies (tighter export controls)
* Ban ALL Chinese investment in the US property market, both private and commercial housing.

All of the above should be considered.

you are proposing some far reaching things that ultimately take the money out of America, which frankly is the opposite of what most of the people in power want. They want all the money, from the students, from the business, from the real estate, etc. Money drives America, and the money would leave and go elsewhere and it wouldnt really stop the issues with china. I am saying it would be hard to get America (legislators, etc.) to go for that when it would probably hurt us for a while in the short term and probably during a reelection year and all :eyeroll:

idk, im down to try it but in the world we live in full of instant gratification I have a hard time seeing people adopt and idea (like the ones you propose) and hten try to improve it vs scrapping it and starting over. but thats a topic for another day.

Actually I said these should be considered. To be clear, I'm not saying I would do that if I was King for a day.

The country steals our technology, hacks the identity of our military personnel, conspires for years to commit fraud and steal everything created by US innovation earned from the blood sweat and tears of American workers and I hear scoffing at even modest proposals to hold them accountable because it might cost a few dollars off someone's 401K balance .....

America has been under economic attack for over 20 years now. China is not our friend. Their government's end goal is to steal American technology and use it to put the same American companies that created the tech out of business. These are simple facts.

BTW if you are a veteran than you are aware that the Chinese government stole your personal identity just a few short years ago when they hacked into OPM.
