Huge lift on 2wd without spindles?

okay just for the hell of it i have decided to lift my 2wd 4runner as big as i flippin can.... aka i want to copy crazydubman. but i dont want to buy thousand dollar spindles. is it possible for me to buy 3 inch front lift springs and then put daystar top out spacers on top because i dont have to worry about CV's. then for the rear 3 inch coils with some 2 inch spacers. is this possible for the front??? i know the rear can be done but what about the front? thanks

I'll take a shot... I think you'd be ok, maybe. Once you go above 3-3.5" many of the guys end up changing the UCA's. The issue becomes alignment. Once you go above about 3" you have trouble getting the caster/camber specs where they need to be for proper tire wear and handling. Many of the T120 people use aftermarket UCAs for 2 reasons: 1) Better clearance for the big rubber 2) Allow the lifted ride to be aligned.

I agree with your spindle logic, you don't have the some of the issues the 4wd folks have.


Your idea of tall springs and some top-spacers doesn't sound bad to me for your intended use and price-point. Be aware you may have alignment issues and as I said it seems to become an issue as you go over 3-3.5" of lift.

so by trying to go around the expensive spindles i run into having to buy expensive uca's to keep it aligned and get good tire wear. so what are some decently priced uca's?? i know camburg's arent very cheap.... neither are icons.... anything?
 
link?? and how big..... i kinda wanted to stay away from a BL since my brush guard mounts to the frame..... but i might take it off and make the tabs. but idk yet

I don't have a link... There's a couple of members here who have done it and a few at the T120.




Bigger than 1.5 get complex with the steering linkage IIRC

I don't know. From reading various posts more than a year ago as the kit was developing I got the impression he'd entertain requests. Perhaps an email is in order. Don't forget the steering linkage may become an issue.
 
LOL at this thread. 4runner8 you are never not chock full of crazy ideas lol.

large body lifts look stupid and become more and more expensive aboe 1.5" due to steering linkages, brake lines, etc etc.

Check out Light Racing UCA's, or Camburg Ball Joint UCA's they are more affordable than most. Both of these are ball joints, while the more expensive Camburg, the Total Chaos and the Icon UCA's are uniballs (and the Icon's are sealed uniballs).

As for bigger body lifts, it can definitely be done. Phil (Medic83 on 120) is running an RB 2.5" body lift. The 1.5" already requires a steering shaft spacer, radiator relocation brackets etc... so this won't be much more work (if any) than that. A body lift, even with all the additional spacers and brackets for the larger ones, is not hard to put on at all and even a custom one from RB is relatively inexpensive.

EDIT: One problem I forgot to mention with the larger BL is you may run into problems with your bumper skins fitting. I am not sure how much you would need to modify them to fit without a gap. Even with the 1.5, you need to modify the bumper skins.

I'd suggest not stacking lifts. Besides the absolutely terrible ride you'll endure because of the total lack of suspension travel, your lower balljoints won't last long and the alignment will be totally out of whack.

Go with a body lift or save your pennies for spindles, not what you want to hear, sorry :\
