Hunting Season!!!

A lease is a rental agreement. Basically a property owner will allow you to use their property for hunting, which will generally include the rights to plant food plots, hang tree stands or blinds, trail cameras, clear shooting lanes of brush, etc.

I think it's pretty common in the midwest, but totally unheard of around here. We don't have to go through all that work to get a deer.

Never hunted state land. Always been on leases. Dad and I keep talking about doing a pheasant trip up in Nebraska or even farther north for years. Need to quit talking about it and just do it.

We have pheasant and I think you would be more than welcome to use the land if you wanted. We only use it for 1st shotgun season on deer. I'm pretty sure we could make room for you for pheasants on the farm up here in the good ol midwest.

I know other states have already started, but early archery starts Saturday in VA! Unfortunately it looks like it'll be pretty wet and windy, so I doubt I'll make it to a treestand.

How's everyone else doing? All prepped and ready? Anyone bagged anything yet?

Been to busy with life to get a hunt in. Way it's looking right now it won't be until November before I get a chance to kill anything. My dad and bil bagged a bunch of dove a couple of weeks ago. I'm gonna have to sneak off to the pasture by the house with the pellet rifle and pop some dove off of the power lines.

Checked my cams and I've got 3 piebald deer running around. They're to small to be able to tell gender, but i hope at least one is a buck! :bounce:

This year VA changed from the big game permit, which included bear, to a deer and turkey permit. If I somehow manage to stumble across a bear with my bow, I'm going to be pissed. Fortunately, I doubt I will.

What's everyone's thoughts on hunting in the rain?

Animals hunt in the rain. Humans are an animal. Therefore, I hunt in the rain. If you've ever goose or duck hunted then you know the rain is the best time to hunt.

A little late to this convo... but I have a cow elk tag here in AZ this coming October. Unit 6A. Heading up there this weekend to do some final scouting before the season starts on the 16th. Then it's one week to bag one (actually only 3 days for me as I have to scoot my ass back to work). I also participated heavily in the early dove season this year. Had a whole mess of them that I made into dove kabobs. Yum...

my son and I had a decent dove hunt, we were only able to get out there one day on opening day.



been doing plenty of scouting for our deer tag here in one of the AZ desert units. Its a hard unit to hunt, not an abundance of deer, but that makes it more fun. We will only be able to get out there for four days, hopefully my son will get his first. We will be doing that instead of trick or treating , but he is not the least bit upset.

the only thing ive managed to get this year.

my first shot somehow missed anything that bleeds. I was able to recover my arrow(dug it out of a tree) and proceeded to shoot it again. this time with much better results. 2 shots, 2 hits, one arrow .

this was my first shot at game, and first kill with the new bow.

There's a neighborhood by my in laws that the sob's are so thick and plentiful they lay down in the front yards and nap. I'd have so much deer jerky I'd need a new house.

sounds like my family's place i grew up in in NW Hills Austin. big ass deer just hangout all day, you'll walk within 10 ft of one heading out to your car and they couldn't care less.
when i was in HS there was someone roaming our neighborhood at night "hunting" this one particularly massive buck with a bow, sawed the head off and left the carcass in the curb.... he must have been really proud of that mount....

And I've never understood why people don't process the deer. I could care less if all your looking for is a trophy but man, don't waste all of that delicious meat.

Agreed. At the very least donate it. There are plenty of organizations that would put the meat to good use.

Just 2 more days! I've seen deer every day on my commute this week. I really wish the house I bought had more land, I always have them in my back yard. :(
