Hunting Season!!!

Saw a nice 7pt the other day. To young to take though. Saw a bunch of yearling doe's and bucks. Going to be a good few years at the lease.

Dear Quail Hunters

There's a lot of quail hunting going on here in southern AZ and i was curious if anyone actually eats them?
I know i can eat a whole duck in a sitting and it takes a while to pluck, prepare, etc. Are the quails worth the trouble for the meal?
Here's my last duck harvest (not hunt).

Fellow AZ guy here, we definitely eat our harvest of quail. Nice harvest of duck you got there, I have never been but its on my list of hunting I would like to do.

Wrap the quail in bacon and stuff it with a jalapeño filled with cream cheese. Season it and throw it on the pit like dove. Or you breast them out and batter and fry them. Love eating quail.

Official T4R hunting thread.

I figure with as many of us that are on here, there has to be quite a few hunters amongst us. Maybe create a place to share tips, tricks, to name a few. I know I'm going to be looking for some tips to get my deer and elk out with my 4Runner this year.

Oh, plus this would be a great place to show off some of the awesome stuff you have killed.

Deer just throw it in the back. Elk throw it in the back in pieces. Minus the back strap that just never seems to make it home. [emoji106]

Seems legit. [emoji1303]

On a serious note.

Get out and scout. Look for sign, (scat, prints, broken branches, fur on broken branches, scrapes), the most important aspect is spend time in the are you plan to hunt before your hunt. The more time the better.

Animals have patterns that very by season and pressure. Some people use trail cameras and those work great in some areas and not so much in others.

After you have done all of the above. Find a good spot where you think there is a reasonable chance you will see something move and you have a good, safe shooting line and wait the first hour of hunting for the day. The golden hour. If you have seen some animals moving but nothing you can shoot as long as the wind is cooperating with you I would continue to sit there. If not the get out and move. But move slow, only stop next to something that can break up you outline, (trees, stumps, bushes, ect). Remember you are not natural to be seen out there and unless your in a gillie suit or some type of leafy suit you outline will stick out like a sore thumb. And even in a suit you will still stick out to some degree.

I have been doing some scouting, I think I'm going to try to get a bull elk and a pair of deer this year. Probably going to knock out fall turkey too, but I have been scouting a little. The weather should drop 20 degrees in the next month, and I'm pretty sure that's going to effect the patterns of the animals.

Went to the Game Fair this past weekend up in Ramsey, MN. It's the big hunting show that is held before any season up here starts and it also runs this weekend too. The coolest thing I saw there wasn't hunting related but it was a way to weld aluminum without a welder for it. Bought a topographic/aerial photo map of my family's property. They let you bring dogs to the show so I brought my dachshunds, they make the big dogs shit their pants while also bringing in the pretty, but apparently not single, ladies(damn!!!!!!). And I looked at some English springer spaniels since my family used to have them(we had five different springers at one time), but haven't had one since 2010. I'm contemplating one but I don't think I'll hunt with it. One other cool thing I saw was a duck print neoprene cover that goes over duck decoys that have been shot(who would do that!?!!?!) and let's them float.....might have to get a couple or 10.

I harvested two deer last season, plan to do the same in October. I quartered one and put it in two ice chests, the wrapped it in tarp and threw it on the roof rack. This year I am hoping to have a large ice chest like a grizzly or yeti or something by then.

P.S. isn't there already a hunting thread

When I searched I just found one on transporting your game. I figured it'd be nice to have an all around q and a thread/everything hunting thread. I even searched.

I have a big yeti to put it all in, I have to wait to quarter it until I get it checked in. Which kinda sucks.

Dove Shooting 2016

Any dove shooter's getting ready for Sept 1?

Notice I said shooting not hunting, standing in an open field shooting flying rats is not really hunting.

My sons and I are headed to Yuma Az on Aug 31st.

All my buddies are focused on dove season, because deer/turkey/elk follows dove, then duck season. I am debating on buying a mossberg 500 flex to shoot dove and duck with. I have been focused on deer and elk.

Do you run dogs on your dove hunts?
