Hunting Season!!!

Mentioned you in the other thread. It took me a bit but I found it.

On another actual hunting note. I am curious on some of yous guys take on when you see unethical hunting? I hunt an area where the game management is a little out of date, and the fish and game guys are undermanned. So there's not as much checking as there should be. I, as well as others I know have found deer carcasses that had obviously been shot, but they were too small to claim. Or in some cases was just a spike, so you can't hunt any more bucks if you shoot a spike where I'm at. One even had its head and only its head cut off. Other people shooting guns into rattling brush, wounding elk, and not putting in the work to find them. Oh, and most of the time they are wounding elk due more in part to lack of understanding their equipment, or just saying f it, maybe if I shoot it in the leg with a bow it will eventually die. Just want other people's thoughts. I'm pretty much to the point where I'm ready to just hunt another area as a whole.

around here, we have a poaching hotline. if we can send in enough info to find and convict the people, they will add additional points to our license. which is supposed to increase our chances of drawing special permits.

I expect your area has a similar incentive program. but again, you would have to see it happen. or have some other solid evidence.

I hunt out my back door for big game. I know the roads very well. If I witness someone doing something like that I just go back to my place after getting the best look at them I can (binos) and then get in my truck. Get on the phone with the sheriff. And go fine the road they are on. If I can get a truck tag or description better. But usually the sheriff just wants to know where they are at, as much info as you can and they handle the rest. Very well in east Lewis county I might add.

Anterless firearm season opens tomorrow. 4r is loaded, taking my oldest on her first hunt to walk, watch and learn. She's taking care of the pup so we don't have to get a dog sitter. Walking private land, so it'll just be us. Hoping to get some fresh liver for the pup, fingers crossed!

Central Flint Hill area in KS. The deer love to run here.

Saw six on Sat. morning, but they were a good quarter mile away. Ended up working on the tractor and getting sidetracked with playing around in the creek with my oldest.

You guys have one serious hog infiltration. I have property in Central Alabama and at some point we may have to do the same. It's amazing how fast they breed and how destructive they are.

New to me, Bowtech Boss. Was originally looking at a Carbon Icon, but they mis-measured my draw length and it turns out that I needed something bigger. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing here! I've wanted to hunt for a long time, but have never had anyone to teach me until now. So I bought a bow, and plan to spend the next 10 months shooting it until my arm falls off.

Also preparing to buy the sight, as well as a quiver if I can find the matching color scheme. I'm thinking a single pin Black Gold Ascent.

I am just getting it to bows as well. One thing I have learned is if you are going to have a rest. It's best to do a drop away. Biscuits tend to wear out quickly and affect a shot. Just advice passed on to me and I figure I would pass it along

Anchor point consistency is key.

I anchor on a spot on my jaw, with the string touching my nose. (this may or may not work for you)

Whatever your anchor is, you should be able to draw you bow, raise it with your eyes closed - when you open, you should be aligned with the peep and your sight.

There's a number of Archery sites out there, I'd suggest checking them out....

Archery is awesome, I enjoy the difficulty of how much harder it is to kill anything with a bow. I learned from a guy who's been bow hunting since before I have been alive. He also is part owner I think of our archery shop in town. Find somebody who knows how to adjust draw length, cutting arrows to proper size. Your anchor point is right behind your jaw/ear lobe. In the 10
Months I have been shooting a bow I learner two major things. 1. There is so much awful technique out there it is crazy. 2. People will not hesitate to give you bad advice...ask me how I know. Furthermore, the whisker biscuit is a great rest for beginner shooters. It's much more forgiving if your body position, or something is off with your shot. No sense in spending a ton of money, and bow pieces, sights, etc get expensive quick. A whisker biscuit with a 20/30/40 yard pin is a great place to start.
