Agreed with everyone else. Had my body shop do the work, did an aftermarket one($180). . .is fitting fine and no problems in 15k+ intense miles. About $85 in fluid from Toyota. All said and done with R&I of old and new one. Just under $400.

Try another shop or even another dealership.

I recently the upper and lower hoses. That lower hose took lots of tools and work. Must have been epoxy'ed at the factory. But I suppose it would have been easier to cut it in half and remove the rad. for a better attack rather than just go for the hose replacement.

This is great advice since OP said he is capable of his own repairs. 15 dollar socket set and channel pliers.

I can come up with a whole breakdown off the top of my head and should put you at about 200 bucks with a couple hours time if that.
You would have to pay 120 or so for the dealer to release the truck for diagnostic fee.

It does not sound like OP is asking for options. Since people provide inputs and he gets offensive. All he want to know is if he is getting bent over/overpaid or not.

The only time I got rude was in reciprocity to the one telling me not to cry about the price because I took it to a stealership instead of some unknown garage. It was a crap shoot either way. My only question was, is this a legit cost to replace a radiator, because I felt it was over the top with what little information I had.

I appreciate the others that had constructive feedback on options to take.

BTW, I went and spoke with the service manager and he actually knocked the cost to just over $500.00 and that is with the OEM radiator. So I am somewhat satisfied.

Really didn't even ask. I went in and asked to speak with the service manager. Went into his office and just told him I was having a hard time swallowing the price and asked to see it line item by line item. We went back to the service desk to get the work order. He then went back to the mechanic. Came back, punched on a calculator, scratched out the cost on the WO and wrote the new number down, showed it to me and asked if that would work. I said yes, that was much better and we shook hands.

He showed me the cost of the radiator which was around 438.00 if I recall. So it looks like he is only charging me 1 hour of labor. The original WO did not say anything about new hoses or tstat so it is not like he reduced the cost by reducing the parts. I did ask about the condition of those items and they said they were in good shape.

Glad you got it sorted out. That's a deal with coolant/fluid etc.

If I were the manager I personally wouldn't do it.. He is eating the cost of labor the tech is flagging.

If you are going to want a real OEM Toyota Mfg. radiator and i am sure Toyota buys theirs like other Mfg.s do from a third party radiator Mfg. Your going to pay a premium. Just look at some of the parts that only are Mfg. buy an auto Mfg. your stuck buying them. But i am sure you can find a equal quality radiator at a much better price.
You only need a new core,and a good radiator shop can provide it at a better price then a complete new system. And it won't need a flush.
