Sooner or later my wife's gonna choke me...

I've got my 4 Runner as my daily driver. I also have a restored 68 Firebird in my garage and just recently I went halfsies on a 69 Chevelle SS 396 with my dad. The Chevelle is really my dad's car and it's stored at his house but someday it will go to me.

Years ago when I was restoring my 68 Firebird and it was off the road for several years, I purchased a really nice 86 Mustang GT convertible to cruise around in the summer. I'm not sure how many of you have ever driven a 5.0 Mustang but they really are fun to drive especially the 5 speed cars. Well the Mustang was sold when the Firebird went into the body shop to help finance the paint and body work but I've always had a hankering to find another one.

The other day a buddy of mine who is a big 5.0 guy, told me about a 5.0 Mustang for sale on his Mustang forum. So I emailed the guy and got back tons of pics. The car is not local (about 4 hours away) so my Mustang buddy had one of the guys on his Mustang forum check it out and the guy gave the thumbs up.

So I'll be leaving my house tonight at 3:30 AM with a buddy to drive the 4.5 hours to Virginia to pick it up.

Here's what I'm bringing home...and 86 Mustang GT 5.0, 5 speed, with T-tops. It's all original with 83,000 original miles. It's garage kept but even so the 27 year old paint is slightly fading and thin in spots. So a re-shoot may be in it's future. But otherwise it's a solid car and supposedly runs strong. I scored it for $2500.00.

I'm bringing it home tomorrow and it will be something I drive to work on nice days. My son is 7 and eventually this will be his car after I go through it and make sure it's tight. Check it out...

That's a great looking Stang, and for 2500 bucks, that'll be about as much fun for the buck as you can get!

BTW, for me it was a '89 IROC Z28 convertible. So much fuuuun :thumb3:

HA HA not really. I've owned the Firebird since 1985. I paid $800 for it back then. The money for the Chevelle that I split with my dad came from a Vanguard account that had been earning very little interest over the past few years and I figured that the Chevelle was a better investment than the stock market these days. Most of the $2500.00 for the Mustang came from my annual safety bonus at work and my personal/sick days that my company buys back at the end of the year.

That being said I am a car guy and I can never have enough cool cars!

Correct. Those pics I posted are the ones the previous owner emailed to me. I live in Doylestown PA and right now there is no landscaping going on as my lawn is under 2" of snow.

My buddy drove down with me to get the Mustang and then he followed me home in my 4 Runner. The last 8-10 miles were in a heavy snowfall. Since a 5.0 Mustang is a RWD V8 powered car the last few miles were a real nightmare. In fact once I got the car home, I couldn't even make it up my driveway. Check it out...

Looks like my brothers 85.5 SVO that he bought off my Dad(original owner). Has less then 45k miles on it and in all original condition. And has all the options, including one I have never seen on any other SVO, that is black metal paneling around the dashboard gauges and such.

Nice score. I'm hoping to pick up one as well in the next two years. Also living in PA, I figured I'll have to travel south to get something in half decent shape.

Nice find! I've always loved those years of Mustangs. Great cars. Those models saved it from getting the axe by Ford after the horrific Mustang IIs. I too have a "car collecting" problem(according to my wife). Down to 3 4x4s and a car, so u definitely shouldn't go on bringatrailer.com... That's BRINGATRAILER.COM :wow:

Well I got the car out of the garage and cleaned it up. It really came out looking good. It's still gonna need a paint job in the future as this paint is original from 1986 but I have nothing but time...check it out:
