I finally ordered my Cornfed 2/1

After researching for the last 8 months, starting at least 5 threads, and talking to Jason Burtman, I have gone ahead and ordered the Cornfed 2/1 kit from Burtman Industries. It was extremely tough for me to chose between the 2/1 and the 3/2, but in the end i voted for the smaller lift. I would like to thank everyone who's weighed in, and I will try to keep this thread a blog of my experiences. I'm going to try to record everything I can think of for those of you who are still on the fence.

Received spacer lift in mail today, two and a half weeks after the order date. I tried to contact Jason via AIM a few times, with him responding within the day 2/3 times. I see this as acceptable, mainly because most companies don't have instant messenger and I never made any attempts at calling. The shipment came directly from Cornfed, not Burtman.

The spacers (count 6) were wrapped in newspaper and placed in the box. My first reaction was that they should have been packed better, though I realized that these things aren't too delicate. On further analysis, I wonder if I could have designed and manufactured these myself.

Being somewhat of a noob, I wish more pictures to accompany the directions were included, but I'm sure with the help of my roommate, JA's writeup, and the help on this forum, I'll do fine.
 
As for the actual spacers:

From front to back:

Height: .5" Diameter: 4.875"
Height: .875" Diameter: 4.5"
Height: 1" Diameter: 6.125"

With height being defined as the largest part of the spacer, not including the inner step.

I was expecting to see 0.5" preload and 0.5" topout based on previous posts. Looks like your preload is 7/8". Be sure to take accurate before and after measurements. It looks like your total front end lift may come in closer to 2.75" and the rear at 1.0".

Interesting , waiting on pics.

Measure from the ground through the center of the tire to the wheel lip , before and after.

Yeah, to be honest with you, I'm a little worried about sagging. Thoughts?

Also: The rear does not have the x2 factor that the front one does? Or did I get a 2.75/2" lift...

And I remeasured, and its just under 7/8", more like 27/32".

I believe the top-out spacer lift is equal to the size of the spacer while the preload is double. So .5 preload and 7/8 top-out should put you right around 2". I ended up with 1.25 lift with my .5 preload spacer so you may be around 2 1/8 when done. But I could be wrong.
 
Yes the rear gives the same lift as the spacer size.

Regarding the front, I have heard people say the preload spacer is the only one that doubles but on my DS kit I got 3" total lift and the preload is only 1/2" in size while the topout is 1" . So seeing your measurements would be interesting.

Just for clarification, as I understand it, its a 7/8" preload and a 1/2" topout. So with your calculations, I'm looking at... 2.25"

My bad... I assumed the preload was .5 like mine.
 
I just ordered my 2/1, so I am interested in seeing pictures of yours after you install it. When will you be doing it, this weekend?

So.. After reading JA's thread, I realized u were correct, 1/2" preload, 7/8" topout.
 
A front spacer, regardless of being a topout/preload, should give you 2x the lift height of the spacer.
This is because the spacer is inboard of the actual wheel hub, and geometry will double the lift, regardless of where the spacer is placed.

The rear axle is inline with the wheels, so the rear spacer size is actual lift.
 
Measurements 265/65/R17

Driver Front: 33.25"
Driver Rear: 35.5"
Passenger Front: 33.5"
Passenger Rear: 35.75"

Looks like my car leans to the driver's side by .25" both front and back. Also seems like the rake is 2.25".

With a typical 2/1 lift, I would expect the rake to go to 1.25", however with this new fangled lift, I'm going to estimate it at a 2.6875" front lift, and a 1" rear, resulting in .56" of rake. What do you guys think? Not enough rake, or should I go for it?

Also, the running board rake is only .7" (resulting in me questioning whether or not my 4runner is going to really looked sagged because the wheel-wheels are just designed this way, and the REAL rake is only .7") This would mean that a normal lift pretty much evens it out, however this lift would change it the other way, approx .9" the other way...

On second thought, after rereading Hivel's thread and looking at his pictures, he seems to have gotten the same exact kit. Perhaps I'll just install and stop over analyzing this. Please keep adding input though and I'll get back to ya.
