I finally own a 4-Runner

The Michelin LTX are definitely my favorite truck/SUV tire. I had them on three different prior vehicles and they are excellent tires.

Keep them rotated and watch your pressure and they will also last forever. If you drive in a fairly sane manner you'll get at least 50K out of them and my tire dealer said it's not uncommon for them to see 60K + on them. Thats a good tire.

I noticed you are in Detroit (read cold and icy occasionally like here) - did you consider having them siped?

I did on my last set and I've put extensive miles on the LTX both siped and unsiped and the difference the siping makes on ice is definitely noticeable. As an added bonus siped tires are supposed to run cooler and thus last longer.

I really like these tires. Smooth and quiet on the road. Coming out of an Audi A6 Quattro I am pretty spoiled but I have no complaints about the 4Runner and the tires.

I did not have the tires siped - what is that?

Siping is when they cut the tire tread with a rotating tool. It's like a razor thin cut.

As the tire rotates the tread (on the surface) opens up just a little tiny bit where it was siped.

It's pretty cool and I think the last set I had it done on cost me $5 a tire.

It definitely makes a difference on wet and especially icy surfaces.

I was a little skeptical the first time around but I put it through the Pepsi Challenge and there is no question in my mind it makes a difference on marginal road surfaces.

It has some good info from when I did mine.

I would tell you to search for this info, but i searched for it myself and it didn't come up. My point being, I'm not sure how reliable the search is, it might be useful to go back a few pages in the forum to get some good info on a lot of topics.

Are these lights plug and play or do I have to install switches in the dash?

I would call them plug and play. All the wiring is there from the factory, you just have to install the lights, plug them in, plug in the harness and install the switch in the dash. Connecting the switch to the wiring that goes to the steering column is a snap. The kit mentioned also has great instructions.

Thanks. They are in and working. (with the help of my neighborhood mechanic). They DO put out a lot of light - very bright. I also installed the bull bar so.... The only electronics I may now add are PIAAs on the bull bar. Just not sure which ones.

I have put almost 10k miles on the truck since I bought it in early August and I really enjoy driving it. For my needs, it is close to perfect.

make sure you post if you get the PIAA's, I'm considering a brush guard and some lights and am curious to see your results

Kind of going back and forth on this now for a couple of reasons: 1.) I don't need any aditional lighting for fog; and, 2.) if I install ATP's or 520's the additional driving light will be at bumper level which may cause a problem with oncoming traffic.

Any one else gone through this that has a suggestion?
