I like pitbulls, I own a pitbull, and I found a pitbull stencil on ebay for $10, so I figured why not? If I change my mind I can just spray over it with some more silver.

Awesome job! Looks like youve got a great little helper! It's probably good you Identified this break, as this tire carrier looked under-designed to me--- not nearly enough re-enforcement. If there's any movement in the structure holding the tire, it will fatigue. Loosing the tire on the road would have been the worst possible failure but loosing it on a trail, specially rock climbing could have possibly damaged your rig and lost the tire and rim over a cliff. You have definitely fixed it! I'm surprised the original didnt have gussets on the top and bottom of the tire bracket. Love the look of the armor! Also, the snow scene must be Colorado, as I can't imagine you get much snow in NM!
By the way, that little girl of yours is sure growing fast!

Awesome job! Looks like youve got a great little helper! It's probably good you Identified this break, as this tire carrier looked under-designed to me--- not nearly enough re-enforcement. If there's any movement in the structure holding the tire, it will fatigue. Man, Sad to here about the bumper. glad you figured it out. I'll have to ask CBI to specifically to do just this to avoid the tire drag. One question, unrelated. What kind of Rims are you running? Those aren't procomps w/ TRD center caps, are they?

imp:It is under-designed. And CBI has nothing but lip service, so I didn't even contact them about it. Notice, despite the mention they have not acknowledged the failure.
Oh well.... Sometimes if you want things done right, you've got to do them yourself. And you are correct, that is CO. NM does get alot of snow, but this year has been tough. I'm kind of worried what the fires are going to do this summer.

Don't be sad. Just be informed, and don't waste $1300 of your own money. Buy a welder and some steel and get down.
The wheels are ProComp 8069's. They're discontinued. You can get the same wheel in flat black, but the gloss black has gone the way of the dinosaurs. Thankfully I got a heads up and bought a spare before they axed them. The center caps are from Wheeler's Off Road, and the TRD logos are a custom BigFish job.

I may just have to grab one this summer. Depends on if I decide to blow all my money on some boost..
I agree with the second part to a point. If I could do it again I would order the whole bumper with swing out mount. And ask for just the main bar of the swing out. That way I wouldn't have to deal with all the bumper angles (and tube in the case of my hybrid) but I would have a clean slate as to the swing out.

My Wife and I are planning to eventually visit CO as we've always wanted to see it! It would be interesting to compare the US and Canadian Rockies even though CO has more to see... I'm surprised NM gets that much snow... we also had a mild Winter and talk is of a brutal fire season...
Here's a pic of a wild fire less than a kilometre from my home late last season! We watched the water bombers and helos... The second pic is of the largest communities' worst fire, back in 2003... 2 of my workmates lost there homes... hopefully your fire authorities keep the underbrush cleared; they've started doing that here...

So, two years later and I finally installed the last piece of the puzzle to complete my e-locker retrofit.
This is the only sticker I've ever put on a vehicle that came all the way from Japan...

Yup. Toyota likes to put warning labels in that spot for vehicles with special equipment. On my '87 Supra there was a label with warnings about proper care of the engine/turbo (don't race a cold engine, allow engine to idle briefly before shut down, etc). I think alot of them just peel off over the years due to sun, interior cleaning, etc. My Wife's '00 still has the original label, but it's halfway peeled off, so I got her a new one too.
It adds a nice little touch of authenticity, doesn't it? Rest assured, there are other nutjobs like yourself on this forum.
Thanks, LC. The LCA bushings are going on the '97, and will be done this week, along with some new tires. I only have two 4Runners, technically... since my Wifes rig is not "mine". Although, there is a nice one for sale on the local CL right now. :loco:
To be honest, if there was an OEM wheel available in 16x8 with 4" backspacing, I'd have it on this rig. I have considered many times over the possibility of swapping the LC wheels from my '97 onto the '01.
I dug through the part catalogs until I found the part number, called my local dealer, and ordered it up. Easy peasy. The part number is shown on the bag in the pics. I was surprised that they're still available, until the parts guy mentioned that insurance companies can be very particular about all factory labels being re-installed in their proper locations during accident repairs. That makes sense to me.

Here in Brazil I have also a truck like this! All modified! I use it for offroad and expeditions.
My truck is equipped with 33x12.5x15 tires. That is as like as yours, but a little bigger.
But all of us that are using this tires, we are having problem with steering hack. Do you have this problem? How do you solve it? Did you equiped with a solid axle?
I opened a topic here and some guys there said about NAPA ou SAFARI LTD steering rack. Someones said that NAPA don't be good, but SAFARI is better. Another ones said that OEM is the better one. Once in time, I think OEM is better to use with original tires, but to use with big tires, like 33", 35", 37" how I like to use, this brakes!
Ohh.. I'm forgotten! Another guy said about pieces from addictedoffroad and from trail gear.
I'm lost! Can you help me?

This weekend I met up with some local guys from TacomaWorld and we took the rigs out to explore some NM back roads.
We got to see some crazy landscapes as we passed through an area that was burned by a huge wildfire several years ago. Then, we came back out of the mountains on a network of logging/fire roads that dumped us into a tight, brushy canyon trail filled with rocks, downed trees, and wash outs.
There was no technical crawling, but some days it's nice to get out and do a mellow run.
Now that's a sign I've never seen before.
First stop for trail clearing...
And another...
A cool group shot...
Coming through a tight section, with a big wash out...
"Primitive Road, Not Maintained, Hazardous to Public Travel"... Sounds fun, huh?
