It's an awesome place, with lots to see and do, and a kind of "vibe" that is tangible. I had to make it back this year after failing to put a trip together in 2015.
I checked out the pics of the run you guys made in the SoCal forum and it did not look like a walk in the park to me.
Lucky 4Runner owner to catch them and see it all.
Just digital copies of God's work.

It's nice to be able to just pull this thing out of the garage and go hammer it these days. The build process is fun, but time consuming, and it's nice to have the time back to go use what I've built.
That said, I still have a few things I'd like to tweak before it's perfect.
Thanks... It's easy to take beautiful pics when you have a beautiful subject.
For sure, Kyle. I'm excited for next weeks trip. I can't wait to get my hands on a big juicy otter pop, under the stars, next to a fire!!

I took the family out from the 4th through the 11th and put a lot of dirt under the tires, checking off a few new trails along the way. The trip was supposed to connect with one that a few friends were putting together in northern CO to end up with around 1,500 miles on the ODO and 300+ miles of dirt.
Unfortunately, [MENTION=63986]Volcom[/MENTION] [MENTION=67615]Dirtco[/MENTION] [MENTION=121121]Mr.Rick[/MENTION] [MENTION=94888]EatonKyleH[/MENTION] , I couldn't make the meet time with you guys, but I'll catch you at the Jambo. It was probably better that things went the way they did, because I had some weird stuff going on thanks to a venomous insect bite on my foot that developed into a fever of 103 / migraines / dizziness / fatigue on Friday night. Plus the family was about done with being in the truck after 800 miles (with 130+ slow miles on trails) in 4 days.
Best part of the trip, as always... teaching my girl the ways.
This last one will blow your mind....

Three bites actually... one on top of my left foot that caused my foot to swell to 1.5x normal size, and two more on my right shin that swelled into baseball sized, hard lumps. The funny thing is that you couldn't really see a defined bite/sting mark at any of the three sites.
I don't know what got me, but it got me good. I'm thinking I got into a mess of baby spiders somehow, and that I took a decent quantity of mildly toxic venom. I didn't see nor kill any insects associated with the event, so I'll never know.
Thanks for the concern, amigo. It wasn't fun.
Speaking of killer photos, I was hoping to see more from you in your thread. Two RTT pics, and some star shots?? You're holding out! I know you were snapping like crazy with that new camera.
I can imagine the conversation that led to that product idea. Better draw up a patent, quick!
This build is best read while taking a dump and/or eating jerky, just fyi.

We love our trasharoo. Typically we'll throw two trash bags in there: one for trash, the other for dirty clothes. Also great for wet/muddy recovery gear.
Unfortunately, after about 3 years, mine is starting to kinda fall apart. One of the buckles on the straps that secure it to the tire doesn't like staying buckled, the stitching that makes the netting into little compartments is gone, and the whole thing just feels kinda brittle. At $50 though, I'm not too upset. It did it's time.

Yeah, it's shaping up okay. After the Addicted Jamboree I'm trying to make the Chile Challenge in southern NM in Oct, which would give me four big trips/events this year, plus all the weekend trips with fam & friends.
The Trasharoo was kind of an impulse buy, and my Wife laughed and said it looked stupid when I tried it on the rig, but after using it on this last trip we're both sold on it's usefulness. Plus, like you said, given it's price point it is IMO a consumable good.

Some sweet trip updates! The pictures are fabulous - the last post really makes me miss the West. Thanks for posting these for me to look at while I'm stuck in the flatlands! Very sorry to hear about your insect bite - that sounds insane, especially to get while wheeling or in the back country! Did you go to the ER/hospital at all?
The trasheroo seems like an okay idea to me, but I've always wondered about the bear aspect. Just about everywhere I've wheeled, they seem impractical (often in grizzly country), especially since I camp in my rig, and I wouldn't want a bear sniffing the 4R's rear while I'm sleeping. Though I suppose if it is easy to slip on/off, you could just pull it up into a tree for a bear cache?
Superb pictures! I like how you are "man" enough to post up the flower shots as well! You have a good knack for the "all-encompassing" view - from the picked flowers to the rig shots to the views. Might have to write for ExPo some day!

Nice pics Nick, another great trip report. Love the color in he flowers. How was your camping spot on the east side of the pass? Did you hit the other road I mentioned off 550? Looks like the rack worked well, what did you use to secure things? At first I thought you had some new wheels. The dirty mud fooled me, gives your truck a different look.

Damn Nick, I'm glad you're okay after the bite. We missed you and your family for sure that trip but you'd better off calling it off vs suffering in the truck for another 3 long days in the dirt. We will catch up for sure at the Jambo. Nice pics of your trip!
