I got asked a funny question regarding what I drive

Personally I have a problem with her openly starting drama on a forum post. You could have PMed him with your disdain for this whole conversation, but instead you tried to out him and everyone here as a womanizer. The Internet is made for people to say stupid things with no thoughts of consequence, well porn is it's other function, but I digress.

If you can't see that no one here would intentionally say anything to make you or any other women who read this forum feel degraded, then I will say sorry for them.

Just take the drama to a private message. I come here to be entertained while I'm bored at work (government computers don't allow much in the way of entertainment). If I want drama I'll read the comments on news stories on cnn.

hahahahahah my point exactly :) she like a BMW he got a hot chick
but she is with him so he must be better than the bimmer dude :)

its all good and meant to have fun just like the OP posting this :) ahhaahahhaha

should also say being young and dating is about DATING finding going out dumping moving on repeat till you find that one ;)

I wonder what she would think about a X3 or X5 then :) hmmmmmmmm

hahahahahha

if shes shallow enough for that to be important, why is it wrong for him to be the same?

maybe that's all she wants from him also.

someone above definitely got their panties in a bunch...

Woman bashing thread

Look at what you guys have posted... really...

I am a lady and that makes no sense to me...
... i hope you don't have a daughter who will ever read this on a message board, even if it is just joking...
...

... so you need to mod your truck to be confident in your manliness? at least you admitted it. :thumb:

just putting it out there that this is kind of a woman degrading thread. ...

... maybe she will realize the value in a practical vehicle like a 4runner that will take any of us almost anywhere we want to go in stock form and even more places in modded form.

... the degradation is stifling in here.

HerT4R,
Having a good wife, a daughter and a granddaughter, I have to agree with most of what you said. The replies are mostly dumb male bravado and sexism. I don't think any of it should be taken seriously though. It's like locker room talk that shouldn't have been spoken on a public forum.
The forum is male dominated due to the truck focus. I hope this dumb humorous talk doesn't drive you away or keep other women from posting here.
But I think you jumped on the wrong point when you criticized the OP for wanting to mod his truck and then said the T4R will go more places in modded form. He never said he was doing it to be macho, just that he hoped to mod it soon. Even here in LA we have places to go that require a mod or two.
I've read all the posts through page 2 and I keep looking for the one obvious response to the young woman's question...

should have told her, "Let me show you" then proceeded to folding the rear seats flat, looking her in the face and say, "GET NEKID"

I will be honest I didn't read your entire post.... at anytime did it say when my samich was gonna be ready?

relax I am pretty sure most of us are having fun

degradation? really..... my God I am so over all this #blacklivesmatter and #equalpayforwomen bullshit....

Woot! In before BAN#4! :sadwave:

HerT4R , I apologize that my comment above was agreeing with what indeed could be taken (easily so) as degrading remarks. I meant no offense to any woman and would not like to be judged what kind of person/man I am by 1 internet post (we are all assuming I am a man.........)

That being said I do not think any of them were meant outside of good humor and I treat it (how you or others is not my business) as basement talk with the boys , at deer camp etc....... Granted the internet is public and those places are not but we hear worse on the news/in Wal-mart.

I think your response lumping everyone in as womanizer was incorrect and could have been handled differently if you truly saw/felt there was a problem, contact a moderator and have them remove the posts.

I respect your opinion and you are free to post it and your thoughts and while some or many may disagree ......such is life.

P.S. I doubt this thread will be around long as it no longer serves a 5th gen purpose but in keeping with this topic when I ask my wife to make me a sammich she gives me the :der: face.

Anyone who puts "Please search, before you speak, or else get flamed" in their signature obviously takes the internet a little too seriously.

Back on topic -

I got a lot of the same comments from friends when I traded in my GTI for a 4runner. Two car seats and a new ski house in Vermont meant the hot hatch had to go for something more practical. I felt the 4runner was the perfect blend of practical and fun!

she drives a 370z and works in the same field as me, albeit as an associate whereas i'm a senior. doubt she's really a gold digger lol. probably just likes zippy cars.

i'm late to the game on this one. when I started reading this thread i was shocked by what some folks will post on an internet forum when they think they are anonymous. Its the internet, you are not anonymous and everything you do can be traced back to your exact location and device.

Being a dad of 2 teenage daughters i'm especially sensitive to jerk guys who know only bravado and the desire to satisfy themselves. I'm all guy and i get it. However you should remember that these ladies aren't just a piece of meat and every Lady is someone's little girl.

In summary, be the guy who respects the ladies and you'll be a good guy. otherwise you're not.

I get nothing but compliments on my Runner here in the midwest. There are quite a lot of people driving around in luxury or sports cars here, as we have a ton of retirees who are now employed by the federal government pulling in 3 paychecks a month...
I got a shit ton of comments from guys when I was driving a john cooper works mini around though. Mostly stupid remarks like "what kind of batteries does that thing take" or "hey if there isn't any parking spots we can just toss that in the back of my truck". Then I would make them take a ride with me on the autobahn or when we all went to the Nurnburgring to get some track time in, they would all quickly shut up then say they wanted to buy one too.

Every one has an opinion of what a nice car is, hell, a lot of people here will see a beat up 80's land cruiser and almost get into an accident trying to get a better look at it! I've dated girls from Hawaii to Germany and any one that judges you on your car and even worse asks you about it on the second date, is going to end badly.

So my advice, run. She could be the hottest thing since the sham wow, but no one needs extra drama in their lives.

That's just me though, I'm an ******* and I hate people. Just ask my wife :)

LOL if this thread "shocks" you you need to stop internetting now.

Younger woman

I went on a date with a girl last night whom I had gone on one prior date with. Toward the end of the night when we were wrapping up she asked me a curious question. She asked, "Why did you get a 4Runner and not a cool car?"

I sort of scoffed and then chuckled. I asked her to define what a "cool" car was. To which she replied "Something like a BMW."

Keep in mind, this chick is 24 and I'm 32. She may assume that because I have a place in a nice part of downtown la that I should be driving something more luxurious.

I had to explain, much to my disdain, that I'm secure enough with myself that I don't need to flex in a bmw crossover that are basically bloated sedans. That during warm months I go camping, to the dunes, mountain biking and take almost bi-weekly trips to the mountains for snowboarding in winter. Finally, that if I'm too worried about my luxury car to do any of those things then I don't want that car.

I really went on a tirade. Her response was, "Oh... that makes sense."

Anyone else get questioned on their purchase?

hyphen,
Thanks for posting this and all of the humorous, tongue-in-cheek responses it generated. HerT4R made a good point too, just not so eloquently.

Here's what I thought someone would eventually say here:

When she asked why you bought a T4R, why not just take it as an honest, unknowing question. It was an opportunity to tell her about your main interests (after women of course)?

I was single for a lot of years between my 1st and 2nd marriages. It took me a while to realize I couldn't just go out with a woman because I was attracted to her, which is still the best reason to ask someone out on a date. If I wanted a girlfriend that might develop into a lasting relationship I had to find someone who was interested in at least one or two of my outdoor interests. They had to want to hike, bike, backpack, ski, go camping, go exploring in a 4x4 or scuba dive. If not, the relationship would eventually fail. So when I went out on dates, after a little fun and chit chat, the conversation would always turn to what they liked to do in their spare time. Ladies first was my motto. If I spoke up 1st about what I liked a lot of women might say, "Oh yea, I like all that too", even if they had no idea what was involved or had ever done any of it. So finally, when I met my wife for the first time, she was looking just earthy enough (from gardening) for me to ask her if she wanted to go hiking sometime. No kidding, after lots of small talk it was the first thing that rolled off my tongue before asking her for her #. No, we didn't go hiking on the first date. It was the 3rd date. Now she joins me on 3 or 4 of those 5 or 6 outdoor adventures and we're both happy.

Good luck with the attractive younger woman. Young women can usually keep up when the going gets rugged.

Have you ever?

im actually not the sensitive type, but i am the type to call out degradation when its happening (joking or not, because we all know joking has an effect subliminally whether we agree to recognize it or not).

also, many recommend that you get to play in the dirt with your 4runner in stock form so you actually figure out what you want instead of blindly purchasing with what you think you need. but hey its your money and not mine so do with it what you want.

and its funny that you say im being "uppity" when thats how the girl you took on a date was, and im letting you know how a down to earth woman views this thread. let your mom read it and let me know what she thinks of what you are posting here, or a good female friend, or your sister, or any woman who will get within 10ft of you. and i feel like she might agree that this thread is not very welcoming of women. and thats all im pointing out.

now go get that beamer already if you really want her.

In answer to the OP question: My wife said my TRD is "Sexy"...

In response to the degradation of women/spirit of inclusion/politically correct/perpetually offended posts: I'll admit that I did raise an eyebrow over some of the comments wondering when flames would erupt and you did not disappoint. Even though I did think "Wow, that's gonna make someone mad" at one or two, I knew they were all kidding around. So my question to you is this: Let's just say you were on a web forum for something that was considered female centric, anything at all that would draw a predominantly female crowd. Suddenly in a post, a member posts a photo of David Beckham or any number of famous men that the vast majority of women get excited over... Are you saying that similar comments to what were posted here wouldn't happen at all? Seriously?

When my wife sees Jason Statham, she makes far worse comments than anything here (as do all her friends). It's a JOKE.

So, if you yourself have NEVER EVER EVER made a sexist remark of any kind, in any forum, or not laughed when your friends did, or never gotten out of hand at a bachelorette party, I sincerely apologize and you have every right to be offended. However, you're also probably a robot. Once upon a time, I was a bar tender in several of the hottest clubs in the Tampa Bay Florida Area. We had nights with male dancers and other ladies nights. I saw plenty of them go full on crazy many times. I grew up going to the original Hooters in Clearwater, it opened when I was 18. I also worked at a number of their competitors in the 80's. Mugs and Jugs, Melons, Peckers (was the opposite of Hooters)... Girls can be flat out as nasty as any guy.

I'm not defending the tasteless comments, some were a bit over the top. I'm simply questioning the depth you choose to allow them to offend you. You aren't forced to read a thread which you don't like. I'm questioning the new norm which is to be hyper-sensitive to anything and everything anyone says and then try to force the masses to create "comfortable, welcoming and inclusive" space for you. Jerry Seinfeld recently commented that he won't ever play a college because he'd be branded any number of things for 1/2 the things he might say. A huffington post writer today said she will never reproduce because she doesn't want to participate in the perpetuation of "White Privilege". Seems like the world is getting nuttier by the day. In the end, I believe being offended by something someone says that is not absolutely directed at you personally, and is said in jest, is a choice. Why not choose not to be offended and live a happy life for yourself and also not make everyone else miserable.

A simple "Guys, this is getting a little out of hand and I don't appreciate it" would have been fine, but you dug in and went for it. Too far in my opinion.
