I got pepper sprayed today

And it sucked!!! It was a part of training for a new position at work. I was sprayed with 5.5% stream right on the forehead so it can drip into my eyes. It was a damn near instant pain, my face was on fire I was literally blinded almost instantly. For the first 5-10 minutes I dipped my head into cold water and washed my face with a hose. It was probably about 10-15 minutes until I was able to painfully open my eyes again and barely see. After about 20 minutes I was able to see and walk around on my own but still barely able to keep my eyes open. About 25 minutes after I was able to keep my eyes open without too much pain but my whole face still felt like it was on fire. Finally about 30 minutes later it didn't hurt to keep my eyes open. Now, 5 hours later the burning sensation is still there but not nearly as bad. Right now I'm afraid to wash my face with soap because water will reactivate the capsaicin.

All I can say is I know why the law enforcement uses OC spray and have a very deep respect for the potency of it. The effects of getting sprayed are amazing and will make just about anyone instantly controllable.

Any of the law enforcement guys on the forum or anyone else that has gotten sprayed, you have my respect... this stuff sucks!! Anyone that has gotten the stronger 10%, I feel sorry for you!

Lol, that's freaking funny

I feel for ya man, my late father who was a San Diego PD pepper sprayed me when I was 13. I hated him for it, didn't talk to him for a week. Now I look back and laugh, he was a good man.

I can't imagine a job I want bad enough... hope you got a decent raise at least. :D

I didn't get a choice or a pay raise. I was assigned to a security detail for the base. Post policy is if you're going to carry the spray then you have to have had it used on you. Good thing they don't have the same policy for carrying pistols :D

After all said and done it was a good thing to have experienced. I know what to expect when sprayed and how to react to it.

I'll add that to the list of things that I'm glad I have done but never want to do again!

I'm an OC instructor for my department... we had to get sprayed and CS and CN gassed to get through the class. I would rather get tased three times than oc'd again.

I'm in law enforcement, and I can say that OC spray is up there on my top 3 list of most miserable experiences in my entire life. When someone asks me what the most miserable painful time in my life was, I can't help but think of getting OC sprayed as the first thing that comes to mind. I'd rather get tased like 10 times before getting OC sprayed again, F THAT!

I got pepper sprayed by an overzealous LEO. Handcuffed, stuffed in the back of a squad car, then liberally pepper sprayed through the dividing slider window. Man a prick that guy was, just grinning like a fool.

Not sure what they used but wait until you get hit with the Saber Red! the OC we used was 10% capsaicinoid. Simply put, it will wreck you. I felt the burn the next morning after that stuff. One guy when home and took a hot shower, LOL.... Ran down the crack of his A$$ and other parts, LOL!!!!!!

Blue

I don't remember the brand of it but it was the 5.5% which is equivalent to the Sabre 5%. I cannot imagine what the 10% feels like.

Curious minds want to know:
Why? What's the full story? Were you not behaving before or after being cuffed?

It's a long story...16 years ago now. I had my part in it. The LEO in question was notorious for abusing his authority, making life hard for kids on the downtown streets of Austin. Mine was not an isolated incident. From what I hear, his behavior caught up with him a few years later. I had already moved away, but I admit to feeling satisfaction when hearing about his encounter late one night with a group of street kids. If anybody deserved a solid beating, it was him.

I got sprayed more than once in the military as well as going thru the gas chamber. I also got sprayed by a Protecto-Jet during Dept. of Corrections
Training. Not very pleasant

Almost got sprayed along with whole ship for force protection training in 2006.

Luckily I was getting out (End of active contract) 2 weeks after this date. I went to the dentist to finalize my outprocessing dental work and they didn't bother me for the make up session. See ya later Navy!

Got this treatment twice, (three times if you. Punt the gas chamber at boot camp) first time was 10% when I first joined the Warm Springs dept...right in the face, and then we had to take down a guy in a red suit holding a knife. It was up there with the worst day if my life. Then when I joined the Arlington department they did it again, as much as I protested, and offered every kind of oroof I could think of that I was well versed, I still got it. Luck for me they do not spray you in the face directly, however I don't remember it feeling any better.

Was on a hike with some friends when a bear came up on us, he was just minding his business but my friend whipped out the bear spray and unleashed a cloud of it into a headwind and sprayed all 3 of us with enough of that shit that we were on our knees retching and blind for almost an hour. Bear walked off, probably laughing his ass off.

Been there before and I agree it was the worst ever. I would rather be tased again than have the oc. The only thing that helps is cool air from a fan.

OC sucks. Just skip non-lethal force and shoot me. I used to run guys through the course. My buddy always thought it was funny to spray you if you were helping out. It blows ass.
