So yeah, I really do have to stop, at the beginning of the summer I was a normal college kid with 1 car, now fast forward to october and I just bought my 3rd car.
As most of you know I got an Old Land Rover and now while helping some family friends move in I noticed they had a little ford ranger for sale, me a kid who has always wanted a small pickup got excited, looked over the truck took it for a test drive then bought it for $500.

So it's a 96 Ford Ranger 2wd Longbed 4cyl 5 speed with almost no rust at all, 120k miles, and no drivetrain issues, the front fender is smacked but I think i still got a good deal. I'm still keepin the 4runner as my dad still needs a 4x4 for the winter time.

As you can see it is in the best color

PS I would have loved a Taco, but cause of that frame recall they are stupid expensive.

Those little Ranger 4-bangers are pretty solid. Can't go wrong with $500! Don't worry. There was a point in my college life where I had three vehicles too. Just sort of happens.

I had four in college... Can't pass up deals, ya know? It gets worse, I added a fifth before a massive sell down to two. A few months later and I'm back up to four. Good find!

haha, I can certainly relate - I've got my 4Runner, my beater Lumina (with 330K miles - my first car), and most recently, a 1986 Honda trials bike...

My dad has a 96 as well. The couple problems he's had were the filler neck cracking and leaking gas and a few electrical issues. The crack in the filler neck lead to debris getting in the tank which clogged the fuel filter.

Yes, the filler neck do rot out. From Ford they are BIG Bucks.
Depends on wheelbase, but the two that I list in my catalog, list out for $415.00 or $485.00

Glad I'm not the only one haha. The best part is that atleast until ii graduate I'm gonna have 3 hahaha.

I'm not worried about the fuel neck, there's a bunch of scrap rangers at work to pull parts from.

Cleaned the interior last night, changed the plugs and wires, did oil change, new rear shocks and fuel filter this past weekend. Pulled the Headliner so i can refurb it as it looks like someone got bored with a knife on it. Hopefully getting a new steering wheel from the scrapyard, as well as a set of seats.

This should be a fun little work truck, gonna be craigslist runs and for whoever needs a car when we are down one.

Did a little more work, Rewired the Spark plugs (has 8), now it is running dual ignition, gives it a little more pep, and alsopulled the headliner and removed the old fabric and bought new fabric and installed it, took a couple hours, well worth it. Will post pics later.

You are in for a real problem in the future,, first its the interest in the "Cool" type trucks/rigs, then it will become the CraigsList search/seek/buy/sell. It will not end at cars either, vintage bikes..motorcycles etc...

You will sell one vehicle that you slaved on for several months, buy 2 more, and so on. Sell another one. Now, all of a sudden you have 8 vehicles hanging around, driving maybe 3-4 of them a week. Can't get rid of any of them because they are all special, some even ground up restorations with names. argh !!

People are starting to notice, dropping the kids off at school in a different car pretty much every day. Becomes a joke with family and friends, what did you buy this week ? LOL

Lining them up in your yard for photo shoots every so often.

........I have 18 Toyota Vehicles currently- crap !! can't sell any of them, they all have names, I love them !

Good score! For 500 I would have bought it just because it would be stupid not to! I bet you could even get a fast turn around if you sold it for 1200, then go get a decent flat screen.. Or whatever

Yeah, if i grab the fender for it, and fix the e-brake i could probably pull $2k or $2500 for it. I would just reinvest in a different vehicle then.

I would most certainly buy a 3rd gen if i was you, i'd rather have 1 working 3rd gen than 3 non working vehicles. And my land rover leaks the same amount of motor oil as the 4runner (1/2 quart 5k mile), its trans leaks though, i need to reseal it though.
