I hate mine so far

After owning and still enjoying tremendously an 06 which my daughter still has and luvs, I cannot like my new 2010 Limited although I want to. Impressions---feels and looks 2X as big and is therefore cumbersome to drive. I thought my wifes Range Rover Sport felt wide, this thing makes that feel like a compact car. The horn blows (pun intended) and is unbelievably wimpy. No memory seats. Looks are not growing on me---in fact, it gets uglier by the day. The worst part is the lack of heat. Even when the car warms up which takes forever, it blows cold on your feet. Since I got it to primarily drive in the winter, I think I am gunna dump it fast.

About the only nice thing I can say is the electronics and audio system are really great. Overall, very disappointed with this car.....

Coming from an FJ Cruiser, my new Limited is everything I need in an SUV. I think it even bests my two previous Infiniti FX35s.

Toyota got it right on this one. The no memory seat thing is puzzling, though....

Interesting. The speakers are the only thing I don't like. But I'm coming from a vehicle with aftermarket component Boston Acoustics with a nice amplifier. The clarity was much better in my BAs.

Well the only part I dont like about mine is the horn, but that is an easy fix.

Personally I like the bigger size, the 4th gen was too small, this is the size it 'should' be. I will agree, the horn sucks, but something that small and easy to fix is no way in *heck* a deal breaker. I am the only one who drives my 4Runner so memory seats is something I do not care about. You might want to check your heat at the dealer!! My engine heats up FAST and the truck heats up the same! It heats up 2x's faster than my old Durango.

It is at the Dealer---lets see if they can find what is wrong with it. As far as why did I go ahead and buy, my test drive was at night with nobody on the road and we only went around the block---my fault---should have done it in the day in all types of driving conditions as I usually do. I just drove my Daughters 06 all AM and it really drives nicer IMHO. While the new one is quieter for sure, it is a tank and feels so much bigger---I was looking for an updated version of the same SUV. If I am going to drive something that feels this big, there are other cars I prefer.

It is a Limited Blizzard Pearl with tan interior and everything but 3rd row. I also got Toyota side moulding and Crystal Guard on the windows. Any reasonable offer will be entertained. Has less than 200 miles on it. Send me a PM if interested. Someone will love it, but it is simply not for me.......

Interesting perception as the specs do not indicate any significant changes in physical size.
(The ground clearance for the 2009 should be 9.1in)

I had been guessing that maybe Toyota shrunk the space between interior and exterior surfaces in the 5th gen, but that should be reflected in the interior measurements. The only thing I can think of now is that visibility, in the form of line of site to the ground, has been diminished, making it feel disproportionately larger.

yeah, the specs on paper show the 5G is less than 1" bigger in all dimensions, but the "seat of the pants" feel is entirely different. i test drove a 2010 SR5 2 weeks ago and it felt absolutely HUGE compared to my '06. for me, it didn't feel like an entirely bad thing, but perhaps i'd feel differently if i bought one on the spot and bailed on my '06 without really (over?)thinking about it.

so far, i'm divided on the the 2010… i don't care for the heavy skirting on the SR5 and Limited, although—bigger or not—i do like the new Trail Edition. but Toyota has really got a hard sell on its hands convincing current V8 4Runner owners to "downgrade" to the new V6; my test drive confirmed that i would miss it. if Toyota hadn't dropped the V8 option i would have already bought one… shouldn't a new car purchase be an upgrade? just my 2¢.

Back from dealer

They unearthed two problems: 1) the factory default was set to bleed outside air through the floor vents---they have reset it to no longer bleed so I will have to wait till it is colder to see if it really makes a difference, and 2) 3 out of 4 tires were way out of balance which made the car shimmy and not ride so well. I could tell the difference immediately driving home

I also noted that te size was basically the same as the 06 when I was researching so I initially thought it was all in my head---maybe it is but the car stil feels like you are driving a giant brick.....

my 10 was doing the shimmy, they were out of whack, got it balanced from the dealer, and still the same problem, if they dont replace my tires or fix the shimmy, im done with it

sorry, i was on a bit of a(nother) V8 rant there, eh? it's just that it seems capricious of Toyota to not make the 4.6 V8 an option. same for the Torsen. i can understand wanting to keep prices low, so why not make these items (that used to be available—if not standard—on the previous version of this same vehicle) an extra $$ add-on for folks who are willing to pay; they may be surprised to discover how many actually will. (similar to how, i believe, Toyota will be surprised by how many Trail Editions they sell v. SR5s and Limiteds.)

i'm pleased with the more rugged direction Toyota has taken with the 5G. they've jettisoned a good bit of the stuff i don't like about my '06. it's just that, functionality-wise, i think they threw a bit of the baby out with the bathwater, so to speak.

Just wondering... Did you impulse buy the 4Runner? Did you not test drive the vehicle first? and not take notice of how it doesn't have memory seating? I guess I wish I had your money to play around (throw away?) with...

Just for the record, I hate losing money, but I also hate being miserable and I have a very short commute. It wasn't an impulse buy. I was the first person to order one more than 7 months ago. It was a refundable deposit. I guess when all the early reviews came out so positive, I dove in despite not really doing a bona fide test drive first. Live and learn.....
