I have been looking to trade in my Ram 1500 for a about a year now. I was holding out to get the 2015 Yukon XL Denali, but then when it was time to order it I had second thoughts. Mainly that my wife would end up with it and I would have her dirty Denali. We have 4 kids and always a few of their friends around so from a practical stand point, the Yukon should have been the choice, but Im not a practical person. One of my buddies has a Tundra and always talks highly of Toyotas. That is how I came across the TRD Pro. I liked the fact that the 4runners will last a long time, since I am planning on passing this off to my kids in a few years for them to drive and after seeing the accident pics of the TE with 100 miles on it I will feel safe with my kids driving it.

I was looking at the Desertdawg's build thread and went to look up 4x4labs because that is what he has listed. When I google it, I almost clicked on the first one. I thought 4x4labs had a sense of humor about "penis extension", but I have never heard of someone saying people with off road trucks are trying to compensate for something.

Just so you know, Luke doesn't have much on that website. Best thing to do is email him especially if you have specific Qs. He does have over 1k pics of my rig though...

Sorry to insult you Bimrunner, it is you not DesertDawg with the 4x4lab sliders. Im not sure how sensitive you are guys are with your rigs.

I would like to order sliders, a gobi stealth rack with ladder, some lights for it and that southern style winch bumper and have everything put on before I bring the 4runner home. My wife wouldn't have any idea that is not how the TRD pro comes and then I wouldn't have to hear about how much time and money I spend on the 4runner. Last fall I picked up my dog and my wife complains every time she sees the fedex deliver a box of raw food for ChloDog. "You spent more money on her food then I did for the family this week", my response is always I like the dog more and if there was ever a fire in the house, I would make sure Chlodog made it out and then I might come back for you if there is time. So I besides me being mechanically challenged, most of the things I would like done to the truck will be done by someone else. I just have to print out the build threads and say do this, here is my money.

Since I am going to be new to off roading, what are some of the "mandatory" things that I will need to have with me incase I get stuck? I know never go by myself. I have had a few jeeps or heeps as I see a lot of people on here call them, but the only off roading those did was riding on sidewalks after Steeler games.

I'm with the OP. My wife sees this forum and tries to hide my money. Last week I showed her the new SSS bumper/skid and said, "I promise, this is it!". She say's okay we'll call that your birthday. I reply I already got the Baja rack for my early birthday, and the Shrokworks sliders for Father's day. She just rolled her eyes and walked away. Maybe I'll get the SSS bumper for Veterans day? :hiding:

Well given that some of those items have a 3-4 month lead time, now may be a great time to get your orders in!

Not sure what to suggest for logistics with keeping it all hidden and then installed before bringing it home though

I ordered a TRD Pro and it should be delivered sometime in Oct. Since I discovered this forum I spend most of my work day and evenings reading about all the 5th generation builds. I would have a better excuse for my fall in productivity if I was a crack addict, because this forum has become my crack. I hate Antman and Jangforhire for all of their crafty beer bumper holders and switches because I know that I could never attempt them on my own. I hate Bimrunner and Ducmonsta for their unbelievable builds wishing that I wasn't mechanically challenged. I hate Intruder with his pictures showing off the beautiful scenery that he gets to go to all the time. I will get to "off road" in yinzer country and although I love Pittsburgh, it isn't as nice. Every time I open my laptop I have to struggle not to look at what has been posted in the last couple of hours and to see if the Southern Style bumper group buy price has been established. If reading this forum was my job, then I would be the best employee ever, but unfortunately I need to go to T4R.org rehab. It is sad that when my wife walks into the room I close the tabs as if I was watching some weird fetish porn.

Thanks to all of you that share your wealth of knowledge on this forum. Once I get my 4runner I am sure that I will up my reading level, attempt some of the mods and then end up paying a fortune to fix the mistakes I made.

I was already perusing builds of [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION], [MENTION=89562]bimrunner[/MENTION], [MENTION=66300]Intruder[/MENTION], [MENTION=68685]Ducmonsta[/MENTION], and so many others even before I settled on purchasing my TE that as soon as I did I was already ordering stuff for my build...lol.

luckily I have a son heading off to college in 2 weeks. that has saved me where others have fallen.

currently don't have the mechanical/money (I am a self taught computer geek/wimp) to do some of the easy mods, freaking honey do lists are killing me currently.

would love to get some sliders that are more replacements for the OEM running boards than functional off-roading.

new front bumper, but I don't see that happening probably ever.

1" lift to offset the new front bumper, see above.

new 17" rims and tires, this may work since I have to get new tires sometime in 2 years anyway cause the OEM squeal way to easy on turns.

and the final issue, I may trade in once the next gen's come out in about 2 years, so that's really the main issue I think and I would hate to really start over.
