I have a dumb suspension question

I have an 07 Limited and I am looking at rear suspension options......I would like to do it piece by piece as funds need to be kept in mind. Can I do just the OME 895s in the rear with stock shocks? Or do I have to do both at the same time? I googled to no avail..sorry if this has been discussed to death. Thanks for the help!

You can do it piece by piece but it seems like a pretty inefficient way of going about it.

I guess the real question is who is doing the labor?

If its you, then it doesn't really matter, but if its a shop then you will almost be paying for labor twice...

That said, to install springs, the shocks need to come off anyways, so why not change them as the stock shocks have to be removed to install the springs anyways.

IMO, do it at the same time because I wouldn't expect the valving and ride to agree with the additional lift on the stock shock.

For the cost of a set of 5100 or some OME NitroCharger Sport (about $150-200)... you might as well just change them unless you want something much better.

My opinion is do it at the same time...

EDIT:

I just noticed you have a limited... do you have Xreas suspension? If you do, it might change how to approach this project.

Ride would likely be pretty harsh with the stock shocks

EDIT: I just pulled off Bilstien 5100 x4 and OME 884 shocks + Daystar 1.5" rear spacer, yours for $200 + shipping. ~15k on them on them, replaced because I added a bunch of weight and wanted my lift back. Also have stock UCAs with ~5k on them for an additional $100

Don't even dink with those now, he just offered you a smoking deal on an adjustable front and 1.5 rear lift complete.

if u end up putting new springs in the rear you will want different shocks than 5100's.

i had toytec superflex springs with 5100's and i hated it, pretty sure itd be the same with OME springs + 5100's in the rear.

however, i used to have a daystar spacer in the back with stock springs and the 5100's were fine with that setup.

What did you hate about it?

Would you expect the same with old stock springs (10+ years old)? New stock springs?

If you are asking if 5100s will work with stock springs (old or new) the answer is yes. That includes with (or without) a spacer. However if u want to change ur springs u might as well upgrade.

if your going to do it piece by piece look at getting the metaltech dual rate rear coils. hands down the best coil for the rear of these. makes the superflex coils seem like theyre a solid block in the back. ask anyone on here that runs the metaltechs and theyll tell you the same thing.

Doesnt the metaltechs give you 3" of lift in the rear as opposed to the usual 2" from others such as OME?

I'm running the 896's in the rear with stock shocks (temporarily) only because my oem shocks were so tough to get off that we are going to have to get the sawzall out to cut the bolts off. But I can tell you that the stock shocks will bottom out over everything. The OME 60004's will be going on tomorrow. Just bite the bullet and spend a little extra cash on the OME shocks, you won't be disappointed.

there are 2 part numbers for the metaltech. the softer rate ones give 2inches of lift and the heavier rate ones are 3inches of lift with no added weight. once you put stuff in the back and add the spare tire to match the 33s or what ever size you decide to run they compress to 2.5 or so. if a rear bumper is added or even a hybrid tire carrier itll compress them down to somewhere between 2.5-2 inches.

i currently have the lowest rate ones and wish i went with the heavier ones. once i put all my recovery gear and my spare tire back that. or even any heavy cargo they squat. they do ride amazing though, 100x's better than any of the other springs ive run. including the regular superflex, the superflex HD's and the lowest rate OMEs

Actually Metaltech switched a couple months ago to a third part number on a new 3" "HD" spring. It might have a slightly revised spring rate, but they don't even sell the other two anymore, just the one 3" spring last I saw on their site.

I can vouch for the old 3" spring though. Rides great even without any extra weight.
