Ran out of gas about 13 mi West of Wyndover, NV, pulling a trailer full of my most important stuff and my poor old dog in the back. Had to walk a mi before I got a signal on my cell phone and could hear coyotes (like 3am) and consider myself very lucky for that!!! Had to pay $150 for a wrecker to come out and put $10 worth of gas in my tank so I will be subscribing to this thread and monitoring the junkyards for an F-150 fuel tank... :jump:

I'm sorry, but some of this info isn't correct. I personally have never seen an F-150 with two gas tanks. F-250's, on the other hand, DO have gas tankS, as in two. It was an option on these trucks, seeing as how they were more or less designed for the "farm/working man."
Remember, when you do this, you want the SPARE tank. This is the tank that's behind the axle. NOT the normal tank. The spare tank is about the same size as our tanks, ~20 gal, and fits right inbetween the frame rails where the SPARE TIRE mounts. So, you need to move that....
Now, remember, you need to get the GASOLINE version if you do this. The diesel version operates at different pressures, as well as might have some residual diesel in the tank and pump. I, personally, wouldn't like that at all getting into my gasoline system. Sure, it might not hurt, but a chance I wouldn't like take.
Like I said before, I plan on removing the STOCK tank all together, and using the F250 tank. The sending units are different, with different voltages, so I plan on cutting out the Toyota pump and Evap unit mounts out of my trashed tank and putting it onto the Ford tank. Should be interesting..... Hopefully it won't go Boom in my face.....
