I have a gift card from VW Dealer. What to buy for the 4R?

So hopefully this topic is ok. I am part of the whole VW emissions ordeal with my Jetta TDI. As an oops we screwed up they provided a $500 VW Loyalty Dealership Card and a $500 Amex Gift Card. I burned through the Amex card quickly but still have $400 left on the Dealership card and no idea what to spend it on as I bought the 4runner because my VW got plowed into and was totaled out. I have until November to spend the balance and have no idea what to do with it. The only items that I really need for the 4runner are:

Tires - not sure they will sell or install them. Contacted service manager and he will be getting back to me.

Timing belt replacement - Needs to be done but obviously wouldn't get it done from them.

Fluid changes - Could get my differential and transfer cases flushed but I could easily do that myself. Also not sure I'd want to trust them or if they would even do it.

Part of me is curious if I could get them to purchase an aftermarket roof basket or roof cargo accessories from a vendor and then buy it from them....

Any other ideas? You all are much more creative than I am.

Go to the parts counter and stock up on detailer and such. I wouldn't have a VW dealer work on my Runner

Agreed. Just wasn't sure what generic items to look for or ask for.

You could buy an item that is in relatively high demand that works with non-TDI vehicles then sell it NIB for half price.

That's a good idea. Maybe look through eBay and see what OEM items seem to sell well and buy that to resell.

Ok don't but it's $400 of free crap. Do what was recommended and just buy stuff you could still use

That seems cruel The tech didn't know any better. Or probably didn't. Who knows. I'll have to call tomorrow and see what generic brand racks and accessories they sell. Might be able to pick up another bike mount or something. That reminds me I need to sell my Yakima roof bars as well.

I think there were a few guys over at the TDI forum that purchased Yeti coolers and such thru various dealers. Might check into that if you have a need.

Thanks. Looks like there is three dealers in Austin so shouldn't be that hard to figure out. That will be an option. Really hoping the local dealer comes through with some Cooper at3 tires though. Should be really easy to move a Yeti if needed though.

Tires is a good choice. They are not brand specific, but the parts counter should be able to get them for you from their tire supplier.

400 bucks is almost half a set of Duratracs or BFG's!

i would look into upgrades such as stereo/electronics those are always fun, remote starter maybe.

Looks like I am picking up two Cooper AT3 255/75/R17 and buying the other two from Discount Tire. The tires at VW are just over $200 each which is a bit high but I can deal. They are $158 at Discount Tire Direct. Little nervous about going to an almost 32" tire but should be fun. I am going to need a mild lift so spacers for now till I figure out what I want long term.

Don't forget to post pics in this thread once you get them mounted up.

I run a 3/4 spacer in the front and a 1.5 inch in the rear and it rides great.

Back to the drawing board on the tires. Discount Tire just put up a coupon of $100 off $400 on their ebay store so I ended up going that route. After rebates its about $100 a tire. I couldn't pass that up. Now I need to figure out what I can get from VW.....

Got the spacer lift in. Used the old version of Daystar KT09117BK that uses the screw on stud extenders. Not the new one where the strut needs to be disassembled. Paid $30 shipped on eBay.

"Easy" is a funny term on this. It didn't go all that terribly I just needed to have the right tools. I was rushing though and bunged up the threads on the tie rod connector so I had to take an Uber to Autozone and buy one. That was frustrating. I only had to disconnect the sway bar and tie rod and use the bottle jack to push the suspension down to make room to get the strut out. Xreas was a nightmare. Had to unbolt the hose mount to let the strut down for enough to wiggle the spacer into place. I really wish the stud extenders were hex head so you could actually torque them down. Would have been way easier with two sets of hands. My recommendation is to buy a 12 pack of beer and ask a friend for help. What should have been an easy 2-hour job took me 5 hours.
Measurements came out to even on the driver's side front to rear and a half inch rake on the right. The rear was just a bit higher. Obviously, it rides identical to before which I am very happy about.
