I have a somewhat simple question.

i really dont like bein the guy that makes stupid threads but i have already searched and cant really find my answer. so ill make it short and to the point. got in an accident, bent the rear axle tube. i bought a new TIG with the money instead of fix it. short time later i blew something up in it and got a replacement axle from another third gen. now my problem is i dont remember what year its out of and i need to do the wheel bearings. everything on the axles were identicle other than on the brake line routing. one bracket on the axle had a nut welded on to bolt the brake line to. new one doesnt have the hole for it.(not a big deal just a little weld)

now the question. can i get the same bearings that my 01' used? do i take a guess and say it was a 99'?
and the second question is torque specs on the links?

Rear axle bearings are NOT the same throughout the years of 4Runners. Your best bet of knowing which ones you need are simply removing either axle assembly and checking the color of the seal ring on the bearing. Older years use the orange color, newer use the brown color (and also note the step on the inner race). Here's a link to Marlin Crawler with both bearings so you can see what you're looking for.

i pulled the axles out before just didnt do the bearings and i think they were a light green/creamish color. i live out in the countryish so its not really an option to pull the axle and let it sit until the parts come in the mail. but thanks for the most help so far.

I can but laziness and annoyance of all the problems I've had with it in the last year. Last week i pulled the axles and the third member to see what was making a horrible noise. Come to find out i snapped and lost a bolt on the upper link.

Money is a luxury i don't currently have... Would be an easy solution but can't do it.

That's not laziness. I have looked through the torque specs and did not see those. As for figuring out the year i feel like an idiot for not realizing how easy it was to figure out. Toyota was kind enough to put vin stickers on all the body parts. I have the rear bumper from it sitting right here. Quick call to toyota and I've figured out its a 97'.

Not sure if you have checked the torque thread but the specs listed are from a Tacoma. So it lists leaf setup. Not 4 link

REAR:

Backing plate to axle housing: 50 ft-lbs

Shock absorber to axle: 53 ft-lbs

Shock absorber to frame: 53 ft-lbs

Axle u-bolts: 90 ft-lbs

Front leaf spring mount: 115 ft-lbs

Shackle bolts (both): 67 ft-lbs (may vary with aftermarket equip)

Leaf spring centering pin: 33 ft-lbs

3rd member to axle housing: 18 ft-lbs
(with e-locker), 54 ft-lbs (w/o e-locker)

Ring gear bolts: 71 ft-lbs (with e-locker), 92 ft-lbs (w/o e-locker)

Carrier bearing caps: 83 ft-lbs (w/o e-locker)

E-locker acutuator to 3rd member: 20 ft-lbs

Differential drain & fill plugs: 36 ft-lbs
