My guess is the OP is not Patrick Bateman the actor. Given that he works at/for Toyota, according to an earlier thread about the valet parking damage.
Thanks for pointing out the inherent weaknesses of driving the best production model, off-road SUV sold in America. Some people here have been aware of a few of these predictable shortcomings from time to time. You got one point wrong though, the gas tank is 23 gallons, not 20. If you must have 2 more gallons consider carrying an extra can on top. I get about the same range in my 1995 Jeep GC and the newest Jeep Wrangler has a much smaller tank (18.6 gal) but gets the same mileage, so the range is less.
The T4r has as much acceleration as any SUV of it's size. The Lexus LX570 is about the same from 0 to 60 with a big v8 under the hood. If you want fast consider the Jeep GC 6.2L SRT that gets abysmal gas mileage or the standard 6 cylinder Jeep GC that won't surpass a 4Runner in power or torque.
And yes, the Toyota 4Runner is reliable and capable.

Lift would fix the nose dive. It did mine. Its an SUV on a truck frame, not an SUV on a car frame. Except I will admit I miss my Tundras 5.7. Lexus IS-F... no reason youre *****ing about power and comfort lol!!! I would too if I compared them.
Ive had my share of ford and will never own another one. With the rate you put on miles, youll be buying a few. Well maintained Fords I have had history with, all had their gremlins wake up after 100k. I believe the clicking you heard on yours is from the VVTI. Ive noticed this on some Toyotas once they get in to that mileage.

I test drove a Tundra, and just as it should be, a big truck is more comfortable than a midsize anything. But I didn't want to drive something that big, and I like having an SUV because it rains so darn much here. Above all else, I trust Toyota quality and quality control. Every make puts out a bad vehicle, every make can get it right and make a perfect vehicle, I just think your chances of getting a quality long lasting vehicle are much higher with Toyota.

1. The OP went from a sporty-ish car to a mid-size mid-range soft-suspension off-roader, then to a full-size extended-cab pickup which he says is perfect. The problem here was lack of research, so stop yer whining. Next you'll be whining about lack of interior storage space the next time it rains. At best you should have looked at a Highlander or Sequoia (or a Sienna) instead of a 4Runner.
I went from a full-size extended-cab pickup to a 4R and I LOVE IT. The pickup had more range with a 28-gal tank, but was a massive pain in the rear to drive in the city and through tight parking garages, plus it had limited interior cargo space when it was raining and was useless off road.
2. American manufacturers have it down in the full-size pickup market. A 4R will beat any American mid-size SUV when it comes to off-roading or mixed on- and off-road. But if I wanted a fully on-road vehicle a 4R wouldn't even be on my list of options (again, lack of research by the OP). If I were to get another full-size pickup I would go back to a Silverado or maybe do like the OP and give the newly designed 150 a serious look.

Seriously though, I had to drive it today for work cause the F-1fiddy is getting a retractable bed cover and tint and it was a fine drive. Had to sit in the massage chair though after I got home cause the right calf was sore from either hitting the golf range or the constant fight with the accelerator.
I don't work at Toyota anymore and got a great deal on it and them giving me a lot for the trade also. It was in my price range I wanted to spend, and don't forget the 0% interest, so that and my new line of work was why I purchased it. They just looked so good I wanted one and didn't care about anything else and for that I kicked myself in the butt for not driving it beyond the parking lot before purchase. I'm an impulse buyer and don't tend to research much when buying things because I just truly don't give a shit. If it looks good I'm buying it, mentality.
My wife may seriously hit me with the "I wanna trade it" question so what do you think would be a comparable suv with 4wd for her? Maybe I'll tell her to wait for the new 4Runner that'll come out next year I'm hoping.

Why is there so much Butt hurt in this post? He bought it and doesn't like it OK! It hurts his calf when he pushes the pedal down.......... Maybe his cole haan slippers are the wrong size? Either way he is expressing his opinion and that is fine. Maybe he should have bought an LC instead of cheaping out on a 4Runner? I am glad the OP is happy with his new purchase GOOD for HIM! I hope his wife has stronger calf muscles to push the accelerator pedal all the way down.... Any way OP good for you for giving your wife your hand me downs! PS look @ the highlander it's what you really need.........

The only reason to get a 4Runner is if you do actual off-roading or you are a blacktop wanna-be cowboy who want a vehicle that looks like it can go off road.
If you stay on road (pavement, gravel, or even graded dirt), the 4Runner is a waste of money. This from a guy who loves his 4R, but I'm more about function over form. Something that looks good but doesn't do what I need it to do is worthless to me.
If you want direct comparable, then go with a Highlander. Or a Pathfinder or Explorer, whichever you like. That said, other than for off-road use (4R, XTerra), I find the entire mid-sized truck-based SUV segment to be worthless.
If you stay on the road and want a more cab-accessible cargo room than a car get a car-based SUV with AWD. Something like a RAV4 or Nissan Rogue. If you want even more interior cargo space get a mini-van. Seriously... I realize people have "soccer-mom" hangups over mini-vans, but go drive a Sienna. They handle better, are more comfortable, have more cargo space, are cheaper, and get better gas mileage than a truck-based SUV.
I've driven all of them extensively, even the Sienna, and if it weren't for my off-road requirements we'd have a Rogue for commuting and a Sienna for kid-hauling and vacations.
