I just finished plasti-dipping my rims black. Check out the pics:

heres a ip that a autobody painter told me long time ago, I never tried it but....

instead of using masking tape, electrical tape etc for the edge of the paint, use Pinstripe tape, then use masking tape with the edge half way over the Pinstripe tape, as the pinstipe tape is thinner than most other tapes,

Plasti-dip is ridiculously easy to use...I love it! I thought I was done after doing the grill, emblems, rear-hatch trim piece (right above the license plate), headlights and door handles, but now I'm considering doing the wheels as well. I mean, why not? It's cheap and you can always peel it off and go back to stock.

I had the same thoughts too! Once you do it and see the results you will be pleased. I saw the pics you posted of your 4runner in the picture thread and think that plasti-dipping your rims would actually look really good with your gold/black theme! Post up pics if you do it!

I thought that black rims might be too much, but now I'm leaning the other way. I really dig the silver/black theme so many are going with, but hadn't seen anyone doing the gold/black theme. I'm sure I'll talk myself into doing the rims in the next week or two...or sooner. Pics will follow.

The gold/black works too! I'm just wondering how the plasti-dip wheels would hold up on these long multi-state road trips we are taking. Should be fine.

well here's my question about plasti-dip...how well is that gonna hold up if you would happen to go through a carwash? is that gonna come right off in pieces, or what?

If you put it on correctly (nice even 3 coats sealing the whole rim and leave it to bake in the sun) then it should hold up just fine. I tried to ask others on here that did the same thing i did if it's still holding up several months later, but i've had no contact with any of them. We'll see how this holds up and if there are any peeling issues i'll have to take it off, but then i'll probably end up powder coating them or something! But for now it seems to be holding up great!

lol yeah it's addicting stuff. Once you start plasti-dipping you cant stop! I was about to do the back of my ipod touch i use in the car!
