I just got the darkest legal tint for the front windows

Can they make the back and rear windows darker? Can they tint over the factory's tint or have to strip them out?

So you tinted over the factory tint? How does the "bond" between the two tint?

Yes, I had the tinting shop tint right over the factory tint. I rarely use my windows (with the exception of rolling down the rear window) and I haven't had a problem. A friend of mine with an '03 T4R had all of his windows tinted about a year and a half ago and he hasn't had any problems either.

:dancin: I've had my tint on since March 03' on all windows, tinted right on the pretinted glass and No Problems whatsoever. Since the glass was already dark, I just chose to go with regular dark tint because the titanium/platinum tint wouldn't have shown thru as nicely.
My front windows are at 29% (which is the lowest variance you can legally get away with in Hawaii, BTW, its 35% +/- 6%) the sides behind the B pillar are at 20% but a little lighter on the rear tailgate so I can see better out the back! If you stand outside the 4R, you cant see into the back seats from the sides!!
and FYI, in Hawaii, Cops will nail you for illegal tint for EACH APPLICABLE Window!! Its just CRAZY to have illegal tint!!
BTW, whats the deal with CERAMIC Tinting?

I was quoted for $180 for all windows. %35 on two front and %35 for the rear and back. The rear and back will be tint over factory tint. They will be almost as same as limo shade. Hopefully, I have time to take it in this weekend. The guy said that it will take 2-2.5 hrs.

As explained by T&T Tinting rep... metallic tint may interfere with the 4Runner's electronic notably the antenna on the window most especially if you also tint the rear windows. Ceramic will not interfere with any electronics at all.
Even if that is not true, I am happy that the tint is as close to the color of the privacy glasses in the rear windows as possible and still legal.
