Not to diss on a 2nd gen too much, but that's someone confusing 3rd gen prices with 2nd gens.

They can ask that all they want, but they're not likely to get it.

Of course, I say that with no idea what the used car market is like in AK.

Everybody's trying to get their money before the whole economy crashes.

Same with housing right now, well prices are dropping just a little bit they're still a lot of folks who are trying to hold out to get that ridiculous money before everything crashes and burns.

I don't like the fact the economy is going to crash . I just agree with you.

Oh trust me man I don't want it to crash either. I mean the housing market needs to reset... But we don't need the whole economy crashing... It will be rough.

It needs to crash. Most of the gains were fake anyway. Practically every single rule of economics has been broken in the last 2 1/2 years. Go look at the trend line for the S&P 500 and tell me what you see. Well, actually I’d argue that we’ve been breaking a lot of monetary rules since the Kissinger days but that’s a different conversation.

You can’t donate or give stimulus your way to prosperity. I wonder if we’ll get around to printing $1 trillion bills like Zimbabwe did, or maybe will just knock zero off the currency like they did in Brazil back in the day.

It’s a bit clownish how expensive some of these cars are now. They have to be though, have you seen what the replacements cost? Markets will bear what is commanded. $90,000 suburbans are pretty regular now, you can’t touch a heavy duty pick up under 65K, and that’s for a work model. 10-year-old JK you are Jeeps start at 25K A new Rubicon is in the mid-60s. lots of new 4runners are in the mid 50s to 60s now.

The real problem in this equation is financing. We can’t have artificially low interest rates and not expect everything else to go full retard. Farm ground used to had to be paid back in three years on a note. Now they’ll do eight years on cars. RVs and boats are a 15 to 20 year proposition now.

A majority of these companies that sell expensive widgets like cars and the like are essentially finance companies now that just happen to sell cars. The car is just a vehicle for a financial product. That’s why none of the dealers talk about the price of the vehicle, they only want to discuss payments. In the Internet era, no one makes enough money, withstanding the Covid era, on any of these products when they sell them. A guy I know sells Polaris razors. Even being an ultra premium luxury toy, they only make a few hundred dollars per unit. The real money is in the parts, accessories and everything else that goes with them.

3bears is in the right place. As you do not want to be in cities at this time. I am glad I live in a rural county on 3 farms in one of the highest per capita of gun ownership in the nation.

I am just curious how long with got before the complete meltdown if the economy and currency. :/

There is such a thing as the "4x4 premium" in certain areas. My sister lives in one, I sort of live in one as people like to get up to Tahoe in the winter, and Alaska is most definitely one where you are at 3bears. These 2nd Gens are getting less and less common and when they are they are just the remains of someone's off-road toy that has been modified to pieces or smashed to pieces, or both. It would take a buyer who was specifically looking for a 2nd Gen 4Runner and who was desperate to get a 4x4 with a clean body. If this were a 1st Gen with a removable top, it'd sell for that price. How much longer before 2nd Gens are worth as much to the right buyer? It's hard to say.

I think this will sell but at a discount of around 8K to the right buyer.

You guys are missing the point, the ad clearly says "alignment has been made"

What the seller is saying is that his offer aligns with current reality

Knock an inflated 0 off that price and it's a bargain

If this turd is worth $10k then my 2nd gen is worth $25k.

It’s sad to me that people don’t understand the economic damage that’s done by “getting paid so much for my old crap”.

If it takes more dollars to purchase the same product, that means the dollar is LESS valuable. So selling these houses for $500,000 over what you paid means it takes more dollars to accomplish the same task. This bleeds over into everything. And that’s what we’re seeing with everything else.

I want to believe that if people just hung onto shit and didn’t want the newest shiniest thing every 6 months our economy wouldnt be quite as tumultuous. It’s sad how short sided we’re getting

Just look at crypto and NFTs - the Greater Fool theory is as old as time. The US economy is a cockroach. I have friends who have predicted total failure of civilization since the 80s. I had it on the back of my studded jacket, too. Work the System - don't let it work you. Peace, health, and prosperity to the 4Runner community!

The American consumer IS the economy, if that makes sense. It's that constant rat race and one-upmanship that keeps our economy as big as it is. Kinda weird though, since the whole thing is fueled by greed. If we all got frugal and stopped charging credit cards and borrowing loans we'd see a depression in the US economy as it's those loans and credit cards (fractional banking) that increases the money supply at a breakneck speed and not so much the Fed or US Government. At the same time, investments that are supposed to be good in times of inflation are down this year as inflation increases even higher.

Every time I reflect on the current state of the US economy all I can think of is the song Mad World. It truly is mad.
