there's quite a few on the roads here in the DC area.. that's JUST your area.. Avalon will always sell well due to its low price for lexus quality...

both ES and IS are much smaller than the avalon.. and i'm almost 100% sure that the GS is smaller too and rides more sporty than an avalon.. next step up is a 70+k car the LS460.. so the avalon is quite perfectly in its place

Well I just priced out the following vehicles:

2013 Toyota Avalon Limited
-Technology Package selected

MSRP: $42,210

2013 Lexus ES350
Selected the follow options:
- Luxury Package
- Preferred Accessory package
- Navigation
- Lip spoiler

MSRP: $43,467


So there you have it. No one in their right mind will buy the Avalon over the Lexus ES350. I'm shocked myself that the prices are so similar. This makes sense since I only seen 1 Avalon out on the road and I live in a huge metropolitan area where everyone changes cars every 2 years.

I still believe ES350 is a better buy and will hold its value more.

a avalon limited is 39k base price, that same base es350 is 36k, but you have to add 9k of options to get to the same price point of the only option of the avalon which brings it back up to 42k vs 45k for the lexus via the respective website.

guess you have to dress up that pig more on the lexus side than the toyota side

Agreed. Plus, some people just prefer the less fancy Toyota badge. I'd feel kind of like a tool showing up to a family reunion in a Lexus when everyone else (other than my parents and brothers) are in clapped out 00s domestics. When you come from a poor area, the more mainstream badge is better. My Prius just looks like a Prius even though sticker was $37k. It looks less ostentatious than driving a $37k BMW 3 series.

That said, if my wife says no to an FR-S this winter, an IS350 F Sport will replace the Prius when my daughter is front facing.

like i said.. the ES is MUCH smaller than the Avalon.. the Avalon is probably bigger than the GS so compare that one against the Avalon.. thats like comparing a camry to the avalon in respective size..

ES and Avalon share platforms. They are sister vehicles. The ES is basically the size of a GS or short wheelbase LS. The IS is considerably smaller than the ES.

I'd snap up a avalon over the lex in a heartbeat. I don't need a badge to try and impress people. I guess that's why the first thing I did with my T4R is take off the Limited badges...

at least the warden snapped me out of it at the last minute and we walked away.

couldnt afford what i really wanted, the cert. 2010 LS460 awd but that gs 350 awd was nice. the interior is way better than a avalon but thats not apple to apple.

looked at some es 350 but w/o awd they dont work for me.

couldnt believe they put a 12" screen in there. after being in the gs350, i am having a hard time now wanting my ultimate, LS 460. i get in enough trouble as is with my 3.6 legacy awd. i could just imagine 50 more hp in this gs. as i have gotten older, my priorities have changed to more luxury than go fast.

granted the awd system in the legacy is way better in the winter time for me, but man do those subaru's have it many quirks and rattles that are considered normal. going from any toyota to something that makes that much rattle and other noises just unsettles me.

i just need to read up on the gs 350 awd system and specs to see if its worthwhile to go that route or stick with the new LE 4runner for snow fording to/from work.

now this brings up a good point to ask all these "smart" people in this forum.

if I was to compare the awd of the lexus gs 350 brand vs the legacy 3.6 awd vs the 4runner LE 4wd.

I think I researched correctly that the gs 350 awd < legacy awd = 4runner LE 4wd.

am I correct? as much as i loved the gs 350 awd, would i be kicking myself later for down grading from a legacy and/or a LE 4runner?

anyone have any comments or to enlighten me on the gs 350 awd vs the other 2 or should i go ask this somewhere else.

I haven't driven the GS in snow so I can't help you here.. over the LE 4runner.. the gs350awd doesn't have a center diff lock

I had a choice between the Avalon and the ES and chose the Avalon. If you price them side by side with the same features the ES will be more than the avalon plus the Avalon in my opinion looks better and offers more for the price than the ES. Only regret is that I should of gone with the hybrid but the Avalon limited is sweet.
