Good day everyone, as probably many of you do, I search Craigslist everyday for used 4runners and 3rd gen parts:ranger: Yesterday I stumbled upon a gem, and in doing so made a fairly implisive purchase.
It's a 2000 highlander edition. Loaded with rear diff lock, 4:30 gears, hood scoop, custom made to fit seat covers, rear cargo cover and a sunroof. It's far from perfect though. It has 276,600 miles on it, power steering pulley is siezed and has a leak somewhere, alternator belt was too tight and cracking, oil hasn't been changed in a while and is DARK. The front left brake has zero pad left and was metal on metal, so I stopped at napa on the way home and did a parking lot brake job. Radiator was low on coolant and looks like someone mixed orange and green coolant, making a brown sludgy mess. I got no mantainence records with it so it'll probably need a timing belt and water pump too, the girl I bought it from said she never changed it since she bought it in 2004:shrug: she also drove it into a ditch so it will need an alignment and most likely both inner and outer tie rods too. But it runs well, has the same power as my 97. Best part is I only paid $1500!
My main plan as if now is just to fix it up and get it road worthy. Change all the fluids, fix the power steering. After that it may get sold if I don't like it too much haha

out: I got very lucky, I had just come off the highway doing 80 and pulled into my girlfriends neighborhood. It turned loose at about 15 mph and a block away from her house. I managed to get it to the side of the road and did the repair there. It was sad because I had just bought the ball joints and was planning on doing them the next day.
