I need a Dallas area welder for sliders....

I went to an offroad shop today (seems to be well known, but I will leave unnamed) to get a quote to weld on a set of trail-gear sliders. The sliders are already built, as you may already know...all you have to do is weld the legs to the slider and then to the frame. The guy comes out, looks at my sliders and the truck, then says,"it'll be about $350-400" :eek: Really? I have seen people get custom built sliders for that price.

Can anyone recommend a welder in Dallas that will give me an honest quote? Or do any of you guys know how to weld and I can help you? I will pay in cash or beer or a combination of the two.

Where in Dallas are you? I just moved up to Colorado from Fort Worth area a few months back. Ive got a really good friend who lives out in Royse City who could probably help you out. Hes built many race cars, roll cages, etc. He helped me build my race car too back in the day. I trust anything he does!! Let me know if you are anywhere close there, just the other side of Rockwall. Real good guy, and someone that is really good to know. Ive known him since 3rd grade, so roughly 30 years now!! Best person in the world.

welding

I know its not Dallas but I know a lot of cars that get welding work done at J's in GP.

I got my muffler and tailpipe work done for half of what i got quoted from J's.

go early in the am. they get busy.

I wish I could help you out, but dont know anyone down that way. If you have access to a welder, they arent too bad to do. I did mine myself with a little help from another buddy. Main thing is getting the angle you want and making sure everything is level and how you want. I used some jack stands to hold them in place, then tacked them up. After that, did a quick look over, then went ahead and welded them on. But of course if you dont have access to a welder, and a little help, then its an issue. Wish I could help.
 
If done right (plating the frame, and painting at least the back side that's hard to get to after install) sliders are a lot more work than people think. While the price quoted is higher than the norm, it seems he's either covering the time it will take for something he's never done or pricing you to go away cuz he really doesn't want to deal with the PITA's.
