I need help for my white 2000 limited 4runner

Hello, I have a white 2000 limited 4runner that has nothing extra on it besides a custom radio and subwoofer. Its a pass-down car from my brother and i don't know what to do with it. Im definitely going to lift it but would it look good lifted because it does have all that trim on the bottom since it is a limited 4runner. if it would look good lifted, i need help on what size lift should i get and what rims/tires should i get to go along with the lift kit. I want to get offroad tires. Im already getting camo seat covers for the front 2 seats. Please help me.

Welcome to T4R! A few questions... How much are you looking to spend? Why are you lifting? Will you wheel it? 4x4? There are plenty of write-ups on lifting and also different tires. Just so we know where youre starting, post some pics of the rig. If you can't figure out how to post attachments, use tinypic.com or photobucket.com and it will have the code for the image that you paste in when posting. 640x480 please! once again Welcome to the forum!
 
welcome...bra...am in the same boat...i wanna lift my runner...am looking at ebay and found some spacers...3" in the front and 2.5" in the rear..
 
Im lifting for looks and i want to do a little mudding. My dads giving me the cash so i dont want anything cheap but nothing too expensive. My 4runner is not 4x4 which makes it hard to want to customize where as i could just get an f150 4x4 and be set. But i already have the 4runner so i just need help on what i should do, customize it , or get rid of it and if i do decide to keep it, what to put on it. I think i attatched an image but here it is .

Your absolute first step should be removing the running boards ... instant lift look.

* read the how to properly advanced search link in my Sig
* read the Buyers guide sticky (yes you already have the vehicle but it is packed with good info)
* read the lift stickies. I recommend a Sonoran Steel type lift but a lot of other guys recommend a Toytech type setup.

My 2 cents is don't lift a 2WD unless the suspension is bad now or you are really keeping it 5 years.

Read some build threads and comment ... they are listed in our sigs.
 
Thankyou so much, I did not know you could take off the running boards.. where can i find out how to? Or is it simple to do with no help? And i agree with what you said that you cant put a lift on it but without the lift, i want to put some big tires on it that are all terrain tires and some sick rims that would go good with the white car. Will someone help me? Thanks
 
If you're planning on taking it into mud, you will not be happy with two wheel drive. A good set of tires and a limited slip or locker in the rear will help, but you'll still get stuck way more than you want to, and your friends are gonna let you know all about it.

I'd keep that for a daily driver. Leave it stock. Take the money your dad was going to give you to lift it, and buy an older 4wd something to thrash around in the mud with. Or use the money to convert it to 4wd - it's not easy, but it's been done. Or just sell it and get the F150 you want. But I don't think you'll be happy trying to turn a 2wd 4Runner into a mud truck no matter how much money you throw at it.
 
I like the running boards. It makes it easier to get in and out of the vehicle.

As for the 2wd / 4wd part. Keep the your truck original and drive it. Any mods that you do this (even removing the running boards) will decrease the value of your beautiful truck. Use it or sell it and get something that you really want.

No if it was my truck, I would paint the bumpers and flairs white to match the body....

Thats what i was thinking about the painting the bumpers but im just having a hard time talking my dad into letting me sell it... I want it to look good with like nice AT tires etc but i want to go mudding and if i dont with it then i will be called a "poser" which i dont want to happen.

I like your thinking but still im having trouble convincing my dad to get me something else and let me sell it. But what does it take to convert it to 4wd? how do i go about doing that?

A transmission, transfer case, and front driveshaft from a four wheel drive truck, then either an IFS setup (differential, CV shafts, control arms, etc) or a solid axle swap kit (straight axle, leaf springs, third member, etc), and a lot of welding either way. Much easier to get a four wheel drive truck, but if you really like the truck you've got it might be worth it to you.

All and all... how much would you think it would cost me. And also, tell me what you think about this: My dads set on not letting me sell it and get a new truck so hes letting me lift it, get new tires, repaint it/ paint the trim white, fix the dents, get seat covers, fix the sub or get new subs, and get steering wheel cover/ floor matts. And then when i graduate hes letting me get whatever car i want so im probably going to get a ford raptor or a new tundra or something like that. So should i just keep it and put all of that on there and just not mud untill i graduate or should i still try to talk him into selling it.
 
How much it would cost depends entirely on how much you do yourself, how much you pay somebody else to do, and how much you can scrounge the parts for. If you could find a shop willing to do the entire job turn-key, it would cost more than your truck is worth. If you had the skills to do the entire job yourself and found really good deals on the used parts you were installing, you maybe could do it as cheap as $500? That'd be pushing it though. Ask [MENTION=25058]ChildrenOfBodom[/MENTION], he converted his 2wd.

I wouldn't sell it. It's a great truck. I just wouldn't go spending money on lifts and wheels and tires and things for it unless you're willing to be disappointed with the end result.
 
Don't put this thing in the mud.. These 4Runners are not built for that sort of thing, and especially if you're 2wd. If you want to visually enhance your rig I highly suggest you take a look at doing a '99 tall coil swap and some more aggressive looking a/t's. Then LEAVE IT ALONE. Everything you're looking for can be found in the multiple sticky threads or thousands of other threads by searching.
 
That's the kind of 4runner that you will look back at when your 34 and say I should have kept it and drove the wheels off it. Trust me keep that thing until it has 300k miles. Keep it stock and save for an old beater 4x4. Much more fun to offroad something that you dont mind scratching up.

Welcome to T4R-

First off, Hope your enjoying the 4runner. You got one hell of a nice truck. Wish my hand me down was this nice. So this is my thoughts on you're current situation and cross road. You have a very nice 4runner that is a great daily driver, keep it that way. I know the winters can be a pain there but with a set of Duratracks and a little weight in it you will be fine on most roads back there.

Now the main ISSUE(No 4x4). Save your money and pick up a 4runner that is a 4wd,has a locker,5 spd and might already be lifted on 35's. For the money will drop to do all that to this truck you can find one that is ready to go on this community easy. That and we like to see our stuff to guys who will enjoy it. I have the same 4Runner but with the 4wd and locker in it. I picked it up for less than 4k. So it can be done easy. Also, use the guys here to help you. We find truck for each other all the time. Just don't be gay about it and nit pick every little detail like some guys here do (IE- the motor will blow up and needs rebuilt at 174,000 miles, that is BS). Use all the stuff that is hear and read up. I did and I'm so glad I did when buying one. I knew what to look for and what to ask.
