I need some help

So I am currently a high school senior and am taking the last engineering course offered at my school and it is an independent studies class. I need help to figure out my independent study.

So here's my problem: I need to find a problem, any problem, preferable to do with a 3rd gen T4R. Once I find that problem I must brainstorm and design and hopefully build a solution to my problem.

If anyone has any ideas to deal with 4Runners or even anything else, please feel free to respond. I am also big into water skiing and downhill ski racing.

In simple terms, its when coolant mixes with tranny fluid. No bueno.

Engineer a better cooling system that considers risk and cost to Toyota.
 
Oh yeah I'd jump on the pink milkshake for an engineering project. (I'm in college for M.E. Degree). I think you would enjoy that.

Or rust prevention. Way to save Toyota from having to recall frames like the tacomas.


What about lower ball joints? Fail points and design how to strengthen them or make them last 200k miles.
 
Or Lower ball joints.

Show why Toyota was stupid to use a ball joint in tension design on a loaded A-arm and how they could have done it better.
 
How about a rack that hinges to one side of the truck for easy placement of ski's and other equipment that one would use a rack for. So basically the user can push a button if mechanical and the rack would pivot to one side and lower itself to a reasonable working height.

I have had this idea for so long and might actually go with it.

There are 2 complete solutions to that problem already:
1) Put a separate tranny cooler in place of the OEM radiator. Problem solved, forever.
2) Buy a manual transmission. Problem will never happen.

Fix the catastrophic LBJ failure problem.
 
You should, it seems like it would offer a nice challenge, but somewhat easy to build. Creating the framework that would allow you to hinge a section of the rack to a chosen side, while keeping it light, and pleasing to the eye, all while being functional. It would also be a challenge because you are dealing with forces that might push the limit of the 4runners roof (pushing down on pivot side, and pulling up on opposite side).:vader:
