I need to vent! ready to junk this truck!

Did you soak any of your parts in penetrating lube/oil days/weeks/months before you started this ?
If not that's your bad not the trucks fault. Rust sucks and makes everything 10x harder.
Icon could have tested the shocks out with a different tire size and coil so your situation might be different than there's was.
The superflex coils I would have called toytec as soon as you noticed the lean. Mine sit perfectly level and when I thought that they were just a bit saggy I measured and it just looks like that cause it exactly level with my front end. I didn't measure before and after but I'm sitting at 39' floor to fender front and rear. I am going to add a 10mm trim packer in the rear just to give me a little more rake, instead of lowering my coilovers.
Don't ditch her just clear your head drink some beers and keep at it. Your in jersey so you guys have the awesome penetrant out there we have all these California laws that don't allow the good stuff out here. You could also use some heat to free it up just be careful with brake lines,ABS etc...
Remember just cause you throw a wrench over your house into your neighbors back yard, it isn't going to make the third member come out any easier or faster. And now you have to go knock on your neighbors door and ask for your wrench back.

i did not soak it in pb blaster before. Yesterday i sprayed a lot! see what will happen today. I'm going to just JB Weld that area on the locker.

Yeah ICON did not test the rear suspension AT ALL! its BS! and the location of the resi is bad. Im thinking of moving it behind the frame, like where the stock spare goes if possible.

And toytec.... i called them they said buy a spacer. Basically saying they don't care. Again its BS. Don't advertise a product that doeskin do what it says

That sucks and is weird cause I've delt with toytec a lot over the years and whenever I have an issue they have no problem fixing or helping out.
But I am also calling from a shop that does a lot of business with them so that's probably why they actually try and help. BS
Sorry dude
All I can say I good luck and maybe get a helping hand ?

I've seen so many of those plates cracked and broken, including mine which is jb welded too. Been a year and a half and the e-locker works as should, but I wouldn't know the current condition of that plate unless I pulled the assembly. Mine was cracked only partially around.

Unfortunately it does more than just the seal, you've probably figured that out already. Installed should hold that collar and thus the shaft steady.

The 'exploded' view after repair and re-gluing the magnets for giggles:

I sorta want to pull the locker on the 99 to see how its plate looks, but only sorta.

x2 what JRZEE2000TR4LTD said on that long stud. You can see all the rust-colored b'lasted....rust on it. Superb----.

Was very careful about not prying anywhere but near the studs, but still have half a theory that was where the crack came from. My other half-theory is the r&p bust-up while it was locked did it in.

One of these days somebody will come out with a replacement for that plate...though demand will prolly be too low to make it worthwhile....so maybe not.

Rock_Rat is wise. Sometimes you have walk-away moments. I'm learning to listen to those. It'll still be there when I get back and am in a better frame of mind to handle the frustrating moments.
Good luck on your suspension frustrations, you'll get it figured one way or the other.

So when you completely took the elocker motor apart. There's magnets that you have to re glue ?

Brian, what size 285 do you have where it fits in the factory spare location? Neither my Toyo's or the Nitto's fit there.

Well the catch is I have a savage off-road non-swing away rear bumper. Both a 33" and a 285 fits. Actually right now I have a 255x85 skinny tall tire tucked under there. I did re-drill the mounting holes moving it back 1" to free up space but that was really easy.

My magnets broke free from the housing is why I had to re-glue. Happens sometimes. The locker won't work if this happens. I could feel the housing get warm but no movement could be heard.
It's the reason it got completely taken apart. If it's in good shape don't bother, the brushes, two springs and two tiny balls are a little annoying to keep track of and put back together. For what it's worth the antenna motor is not the same, but similar.

PS. If it ever does happen to you pay particular attention to how they are in there, there's a north/south and it's important. Somebody *coughs-husband* pulled mine out because to mess with me/ check out the elocker guts. If THAT ever happens the glue patterns in the housing vs. the magnets made it possible for me to put them back in correctly.

Thanks for the reply. I had a chance to jump on the Shrockworks bumper GB but I had a hard time justifying the need. (The winch took priority anyway.) I'll have to crawl underneath and take a look at that space again.

Swap your superflexs for 861s or other lc coils. I gain about an inch when I did that. I really liked the ride and flex with my superflex coils but they had coil smack and made a ton of noise over bumps. My only complaint with my lc 8 wraps is that I wouldn't want to make a high speed maneuver with them. Other than that, they ride spectacularly. They were also the same length when outside of the truck so you shouldn't see any noticeable loss in droop.

Hopefully you can move the reservoirs to a better spot that doesn't rub. The bad thing with a setup like that is every truck is going to be different in what wheels, tires, backspacing, etc it is running so it may rub for some, it may not rub for some.

Hang in there man and take a break every now and then. Unfortunately, it's all a part of wrenching. If you try and persist it usually begins to go down hill fast. Sorry to see all the rubbing going on with your Icon setup. As expensive as they are, from all of the reading on here that I've done, their system just doesn't seem to fit very good on our rigs. Unner just installed a set of 861's and his rig looks pretty good.Something to consider.

Look on the bright side of everything - you have an e-locker! You'll get there and this will all be behind you.

Thanks man! 861s are the way to go. No loss in flex either, but they handle weight magnificently.

got it out today

air hammer!

Awesome! Hope things start going better for you.

The 861s vs superflex. The 861s should be taller because superflex are sagging correct ? I'd like to have 3.25" to 3.75" of lift in the rear with my rear swing out. Because the superflex Coils are "suppose" to provide 3.75" of lift without any weight. Lol. And , because I had ICON make me a custom length rear shock. The same measurement that The Toytec rear boss shock is for the superflex Coils.

861 can provide 5"+ lift unloaded. I'm guessing you would be 4" or more with your weight.

Oh damn really ? Why did I think OME rear Coils only provide 3".

But you guys understand where I am going with this right ? In other words. I cannot use a shorter coil then superflex. Either same length or longer.

I have this currently:

Savage rear bumper/tire carrier
Spare tire
Box of some goodies, shackles, recovery straps, air compressor....
Hi lift jack
TRED recovery pads

I don't think it's 400lbs. But maybe like 300lbs

Man, I'm sorry to hear you had the ICON shocks made to that length- the extended shocks they recommend for the Superflex coils are definitely too long. If you don't care about up travel, and want to drop your bump stops down- I'm sure they're fine. But I want to maximize my travel, and keep a lower COG, and those shocks were too long for me- I bumped them out with no extra weight, and my 315's were miles away from rubbing my quarter [emoji1361]
FWIW, my Superflex coils gave me exactly 3.75" of lift(with no weight), and sit dead even side to side.
Wrenching can be extremely frustrating, and I'm glad to see you finally got the third out.
If it makes you feel any better, I spent well over 8hrs just trying to get my lower shock eye off the stud [emoji58]

If I remember right 861 coils are front lift coils from lc. If stock lc front coils lift us 4" imagine what an 861 would do.

Kinda liking the 861 idea. I didn't know they were for front.

Yeah, I guess the boss shocks are to long. Which again, Toytec messed up!! Although they aren't that much different then Bilstein 5100 that I had before.

And many people run 861 in back without issues ? What about the LC Coils ? And weight

If you go lc coils go with 8-9 wraps but if lots of weight they will lose ride height and do better under weight with air bags.

861 sounds better. Anyone else wish 861 on here ?

I hate the idea of spacers !!

I did LOTS of research on 861s before I installed mine. Check out the last few pages of my build for a "review" comparing my ride height before with new OEM LC 7.5 wraps vs OME 861s. They are a "stock replacement" coil for land cruisers. The caveat is that they are designed to support an additional load upfront like a bull bar and winch. Something like 200lbs over stock and provide .25" (minimal) lift on a LC.

All of the LC springs people use on 4Runners come from the front suspension of an 80 series land cruiser, they have the same seats as our rear suspension.

Installing 861s should get your rear end up higher, giving you more down travel with the shocks too.

I've got 4xInnovations rear bumper with swing out, full skids (radiator to gas tank), sliders, roof rack, hi lift, and the same box of goodies. I've got a little more weight than you do in the rear so I would expect your truck to sit a little higher than mine with the 861s in the rear.

Lots of members here run them, Big Fish All Day, 4-Ripcord, Flemster, Gerdo, and many others.
