Stop. Back up. Stop throwing parts at your truck, and isolate your problem first. You thought it was a bent wheel and you spent a fair chunk of money on new wheels that didn't fix the trouble. Now you're talking about replacing the axle, which is a decent amount of work and money, and you still don't know if it's going to fix your trouble.

Do the tests described upthread. Pull the axle shaft and put a straightedge on it. Come back with the results and THEN ask for advice about what you should do next. :thumb:
 
You're right. I don't have a straight edge, where should I get one?

For your purpose, a cheap four foot carpenters rule from a hardware store will work fine.

It's not uncommon for the axle to bend right at the flange. If you see runout doing IBallEngineer's test but find the shaft itself to be straight, try rolling it on a table or bench with the flange hanging off the end. You should see the flange wobble.

The wheels are brand new and the old wheel did the same exact thing. I wonder if I damaged the axle when I replaced the seals. Is it easy to damage the axle?

The wheel should of came with the correct lugs to fit the seat of the rim. Does this issue still happening with the factory rims on
 
I tried to watch the video, but it said it was private.

It's really very easy to check the axle. With the wheel off, and the brake drum removed, and the rear axles housing supported safely, you can:

1. Have someone start the vehicle and place the the vehicle in drive, and watch for up and down(radial) movement, or side to side(lateral) movement. Do not have the driver step on the brakes, just turn of the engine. You'll have to put the drum back on to use the brakes.

Or

2. Place the trans in neutral with the engine off, have someone rotate the other side wheel, you can watch the axle move and see if it has any runout as described in procedure 1.

You can also put a ball joint dial indicator on it to actually measure the run out.

There seems to be a bunch of movement laterally and radially. unfortunately the video isn't that great now that I'm looking at it on my computer. Also, I'm terrible at following directions. I pulled the ebrake. Was a fun time getting the drum cover back on.

But it does look like it's wobbling, next step is to pull it to see if it's the bearing or the axle shaft. No use to cry!!:hurt:

Gotcha. I thought the bearing would have been noticeable by moving the wheel up and down, which I did prior to removing the wheel to do your test. How else should I check the bearing?

That is correct, when you pull the axle if the inner part of the bearing has play, it's bad, but I'm going with the axle because the lateral movement can't be the bearing!

I just had to chuckle at the thread title, dam near thought I made this post without knowing.....

More then a few times in life you will think that you just never make the right decisions, just keep going till you do!

Did you try swapping the left and right rear wheels to see if the wobble changed sides?

About the axle, have it measured for spec by someone who is familiar with Toyota.
 
Could it be as simple as a warped drum? The OP stated he had a really hard time putting the drum back on. If the drum doesn't seat right it could cause that problem??

Let there be no confusion, the only reason there was an issue getting the drum back on was due to the idiot that took it off(i pulled the ebrake with the drum off, hence the title," I can't do anything right"). It's more than likely the axle.

Are they repairable or should I remove and replace with new? I'd like to get this resolved sooner than later. I wouldn't have a problem just buying another one if it's in the same price range as repairing the existing part. I don't have the facility to leave the vehicle disassembled. I'm leaning towards a repair that would entail removing and replacing with new parts but not against repairing existing parts if the price difference is substantial.

Find an axle and the whole repair is just a few hours! I don't of anyone straightening an axle shaft, housing yes, shafts no.
