I recently installed ebay headlamps they look great but I need more brightness

Ill be doing some research on upgrading but I was wondering what the path would be to get nice bright low beams. These are the ones that I have. They look great but I understand that the optics are probably not super high quality. Can I upgrade to HID with these?

Anyone can throw HID's into anything, but I've never seen an Ebay or aftermarket brand projectors come near OEM projectors for cut offs. (For the keyboard warriors, Yes, I know our 4.5th gen projectors are halogen projectors and not HID projectors ... but the squirrel finder adjustment mod helps!).

You can try to see what the cut off looks like with the Ebay unit. Or use them as donors to do a proper HID retrofit.

Go with HIR bulbs , huge improvement over stock. Runs usually $30 a pair. Just need to trim tabs to fit housing. No wiring involved , same stock wattage. Lots of discussion on it here and elsewhere

I have a friend that did a proper HID projector retrofit and the lighting beam pattern / cut-off if absolutely amazing. Its a bit more time and effort but the end results IMO are worth it.

Some people use OEM stuff out of cars like an Acura TL which is a really nice projector, but the Morimoto HID stuff gets you almost there and for a lot less.

My only concern with a HID in a halogen housing is the beam pattern and cut-off line... I just try my best to not be "that guy" on the road... I hate getting sprayed with stray light and I prefer not to do it to others.

It might be an exercise in trial and error but considering the cost of a HID kit, it might be worth trying, or you might want to consider a high output LED that has an adjustable shroud to help tune the light. Might be good enough, it might not...

I was gonna go that route for the wife's Rav4 but there are also reviews that say HIR bulbs don't do much more than standard halogen bulbs to merit the mod. Maybe its vehicle based, but I was torn by the mixed reviews and haven't pull the trigger.

if i were you, i find someone to do a true hid projector retrofit. why spend more money on minimal result, when having a job done right will get you the best performance.
