I rig has multi-mode, can I use reg. 4wd?

Why I ask?
I just spoke to someone that said he hated the traction assisted options of vehicles, because they do not allow you to do what you need to do. He said, if you never learned how to drive in adverse conditions and don't know how to, they may be of help. He said they tend to cut power when you need the power, take too long to respond, etc.
I get more and more confused...........

i dont think so, i think its a awd, type when not in 4wd but i could be wrong

multimode is not traction controll, it wont cut power to the wheels ect. it will just put you in awd like a subaru or an audi or some bmw's(x- type) what that person was talking about i think is, traction control and stability assist, both of which im almost positive 3rd gen 4runner never had, the only thing "fancy" we got was ABS

He's just trying to get you to search before asking a question. Google will more than likely lead you right back to this site (follow his link and you will see it does just that), or you can use the google search bar in upper right of this forum. There are many threads on disabling the traction assist features, and on details of the multi-mode and 4WD. Very easy to find them with just a few minutes of searching. You should put your time in before asking others to put their time in responding to your question. All the answers to your questions are here already, and very easy to find. Start with the stickies.

What do you mean? If you want to disable your traction control features, the links tbst posted tells you how to disable it. If you want to know about the multimode, that thread by Brian2Sun listed in the stickies has all the info you should need about it.
If you have read these threads and still have a specific question, then ask the specific question, but it sounds like you are just asking a basic question that has been asked and answered a million times without even reading the old threads.

i think for us gear headed guys the threads make sense for the most part, but sometimes i have to read them two or three times to make sense of stuff, im more of a visual person, so reading something often times doesnt do it for me. but for someone who is not "gearheaded" or mechanically inclined as much as we are, i can see where these threads can get confusing and yeah. not to say oh shes a girl, here let me open your door and hold your jacket while you put it on sh1t, but sometimes women just dont get the mechanical stuff as fast as us guys. again not trying to be sexist or say that its a girl, so she is dumb, no cause i know plenty of guys that cant even Fing check their own damn oil, let along change it, or conceptualize a 4wd system. i think the OP is asking the questions cause she is confused and she might not know how to word her question. could be wrong though

that have the ability, to look past themselves, and understand that there are some that have other skills and may not understand all of this, without seeing it or having it explained differently.
Some have no problem offering up a chair and explaining, or pulling out a scratch piece of paper and drawing a few pics, or wording it in a different way.
Then there are the jerks, that roll their eyes in disgust, don't have the time of day, for anything that is not self-serving, and I'd bet have a track record to prove it.
Then there are the gals, that would rather not waste one moment, in a room filled with the jerks, because they are smart enough to know, other than a few skill sets, they are a dead end road. Hmmm, hear the door slamming?
God help them, if one of those girls happen to be the nurse or lawyer, they ask for help, when they chop their hand off or need help from being sued for child support, and they are told to go read one of the many DO IT YOURSELF manuals.

Thicken your skin a little bit, this is an internet forum, do you expect us to hold your hand and give you personalized instruction? Instead of complaining, just ask the specific question you havn't been able to answer by researching yourself.
I hope that you have realized from the threads tbst and myself posted, that your original question was referring to the wrong thing to begin with, the multimode is separate from the traction control systems. Read tbst's links, and if they don't answer your questions about disabling the VSC and TRAC functions, then ask your specific question here, and everyone will be happy to answer it.

I get your original question about having all the "fancy electronics" being disabled. If you have Multi-Mode then I guess your 4runner is a 01-02?? With the 4wd button on the side of shifter?
You press the button on the shifter , that gives you AWD with Stability and Traction controls active..
While in AWD and push the switch on the side of the steering wheel, that locks in your center differential and gives you "Old School" 4WD but the added benefit of the Traction control still active. The Stability control is turned off when in "4wd"..
The only way to disable the Stability control is to do one of the "Mods" they were talking about earlier.
I tried to explain the best I could, I was in the same boat your in about the "Multi-mode" system when I got my 2001. I did find this thread to be the most helpful to describe the "Multi-Mode" system in these 4runners.

ok so now as an owner of a 97 runner(who does not have multimode), this makes perfectly clear sense to me, having not owned a MM runner i have to admit im not up on how the MM works, but this is a simple tech free way of saying, and even something i can conceptualize. sometimes reading long threads with technical terms can get me lost as i start reading(to myself) in a mono-tone voice in my head and i soulc like the "red eyes/clear eyes guy.... then i get lost and say oh F*CK it and then go ask someone to answer my question.
i know this forum can be rough sometimes, but its also not as bad as some IE pirate ect. but in all fairness we do get a lot of repeat questions and noobs not looking into their question before they ask it ect, and some trolls that just look for opportunities to piss others off. while yes that irritates me and i dont mind slamming them and flaming them for it, when a member, even if they are a new member has a question after doing some research and looking at the links and stickies and is still confused why do we need to all act like know it alls and 13yos and bash them for being confused. sure her questions was confusing to us, but we could be adults and ask the OP to clarify the question too? some of these questions are not as clear or easy to answer as, "hey what can i do to get more power outta my runner... does a chip work" or something like that. some of the questions can be confusing as well as their answers.
idk maybe im just getting soft cause its the holidays and if so we cant have that so -OP go read the Fing stickies again!, there i said it, we cant have softy members here i guess lol.
