I Think I found a Way to Get HIDs in a Projector Fog Light Housing

I was reading over on HIDplanet and saw that a lot of people were using a Blazer fog housing with a DDM Raptor HID kit and getting great results.

The Blazer has a cutoff shield and when used with an HID kit, produces an approximate knee high cutoff line. I can buy a pair of Blazers for $42.70 shipped on ebay. A DDM tuning Raptor kit sets me back a whopping $41.26. If I can retrofit these Blazers into the space for the factory fogs we've got ourselves a new mod!

i think it sounds sick! i would do a lower temp hid in the fog housing than what you have in your headlights. i just like that contrast of a brighter light in the headlight with either a yellow fog or just a more yellow tint. but its thats just my opinion

I agree. You should go for it - a HID in a projector light housing will always provide good light output. I have yellow lights that I'm about to install in my Hella', but once I upgrade to HID's in the low/high beams, I'll be putting HID yellow fogs in the Hella DE's. Let us know how this goes :bigok:

I don't know if I want to go with 4500k or 5000k, I usually drive with the fogs on with the headlights so I'm leaning more toward 5000k. Plus its only $20.00 for new bulbs so I could always change the temperature rating..... I think this might work!:biggrin2:

i did this on my prelude, i found fogs at advance auto that i could fit HID into and then dropped in some 3K(yellow) and sealed it up.

I could also put two more behind the lower valence also known as the "fat lip". That might be a little too much HID goodness...

Hella Micro DE's are the way the go. They make a kit that's made for the 99-02 4Runner's and HID's fit perfectly, plus the light output is amazing!

The only problem with the Micro DE's is they are around $150 just for the housing. I can get the whole setup for $80. At that price they are cheap enough that if I cant get them to work I can just scrap the project and use them somewhere else.

Obviously the Hellas are better quality but this is just a little experiment for me, we'll see how it turns out.

I've seen a few people that modded the housing so they could use a D2S bulb instead of an 880 to get a more intense beam.

I also just found a company that offers a H3c HID kit for $55, should I just do that? Do you think the factory fog housings could take the heat? Do you think the lens would lower the light output because it is not completely clear?

As long as you get an H3 HID kit then yes, you can. Hella also makes an HID specific Micro DE but they are over $500.

Cool, LINY posted a link in another PnP kit thread that showed having H3 HID's for like 70 bucks or something like that.

As much as I wanted those HID Hella DE's, I just couldn't pull the trigger because of the price. They would have looked real nice though

I have the Hella DE's...took them off a trade-in when i worked at toyota :flipoff:

I just have Nokya Hyper Yellow Bulbs in them now though but it looks awesome with the 12,000k HID headlights
