I thought the 2000 3rd gen 3.4 V6 had a metal timing chain?
Apparently it’s a rubber belt.
1. I’m assuming it should be changed every 90K miles?

now to do a complete inside the timing cover job I read that starter contacts are a good idea.
2.What do you Guy’s think RA is calling the starter contacts?

3.also curious about tube at thremostate should this tube be replaced or just reused? and is thremostate located inside timing cover?

4.My searching skills aren't the greatest please provide a timing set waterpump swap writeup.

It is a robust belt. The 5vz-fe is a non-interference motor so if the belt brakes, it will just stop working. no catastrophic damage.

I wouldn't change it unless the front oil seal is leaking or if the the water pump is leaking.

This is new info to me. And all this time I had it in the back of my mind that I needed to change my timing belt cause if it went the motor would go too. Time to research "non-interference motor"

This is correct, it is a non-interference motor.

Never-the-less, I would change it at the recommended 90K interval along with the water pump. It would not be fun to get stranded.

You can change it at 190k if the water pump or front oil seal don't leak

Starter is on ass end of motor. It is opposite of the TB.

When they go bad. It could be 90k or it could be 190k.

The thermostat is cheap enough to replace with an oem unit when doing a TB job. Don't replace a working thermostat with a cheap aftermarket one. The thermostat can be replaced anytime as it is only held on with 3 bolts and a spring clamp.

If your searching skills aren't that good i would worry about your installing a timing belt, water pump, thermostat, oil seal, starter contact skills.

Just kidding. It should take less then 2 hours to do the whole job and add another 30 minutes if you do the starter contacts.

Whatever you do, you should get the entire TB OEM kit. It comes with everything and its all OEM. Here is a good link. Everything for under $350 shipped. Again its not worth changing if inspection is good.

I have 15 years on the same belt, so as Singtoe said, they are strong. Maybe not quite Army Strong.
