I took the plunge! First 4Runner

So, I made the switch last night. I have officially traded my modded 2004 Land Rover Discovery 2 for a 2008 v6 SR5 with 39,000 on the odo. Already enjoying the heck out of driving it all day and moving away from driving "the brick".
The Rover I had was modified with a 2.5" lift, front and rear bumpers and sliders. So, I'm already starting my wish list of mods, more than likely starting with the lift. My rule of thumb however is that I should get accustomed to driving it stock for the time being just to understand how it handles and add the mods as they are needed. Just wanted to say, I'm a former Rover owner turned Toyota guy.

Good call on taking your time with the mods, it'll give you a nice baseline. this is one hell of a forum community, you did the right thing coming here. You'll learn everything you'll ever want to know about your 4runner. Congratulations on the new ride!!

I would like to see the Discovery as well, I wanted one before I got my 4Runner (actually was leaning towards a LR3, hell even a defender not that you find many in the states) but obviously out of my intended price range. I love Land Rovers for their heritage and good off road capability (on the models truly intended for serious offroad use) but they tend to have a lot of leaks and small problems, not to say they are a bad vehicle, just what I have noticed working on them.

Grats on the new 4Runner, hopefully you will have good luck with your vehicle and we all can't wait to see what you have planned for the vehicle!

Here's some from an outing I had gone on with the Rover. Front bumper soon followed but then the mechanical gremlins kicked in and became a project to try and fix for the next year. After dealing with the woes of a Discovery 2 with 140k and all that was breaking, and then the birth of my daughter just last month, I decided I needed something reliable and still fun at the same time. While I hated to let it go, it doesn't help to have a vehicle in the garage not running when you need something dependable on the road.
The pictures are with the 2.5" lift, OME springs F+R, Qt diff guard F+R, Rovertym Rear Bumper with nerfs and wraparound, and loaded down in the back with all the tools most Rover owners will tell you to bring in case of a trail break. Rover had a TrueTrac in the front and ARB in the rear geared to 4:11 in the diffs and tranny.
