No I mean not LOOK cheap. I don't mind paying a decent price for a bad ass looking grill. You interpreted it as if I wanted a sweet one for a cheap price. thats obviously not the case haha

No, no. I know what you meant.

:D

Damage multiplier is what it is... save your money for a real bumper IMO

why would it make damage worse? It should protect my **** incase a deer runs in front or someone slides in to me in the snow, No?

This makes me laugh... If it makes you feel any better I didn't know how crappy brushgaurds were until I came to this site. They really are only good for (lite) brush, wont protect you against anything else.

x2 only for looks really and pushing people out in snow and even that is a maybe save it for a bumper imo

Gosh people some of us like the look of a brush guard, everyone doesn't have to like you you like, HOWEVER... :bigok:

i too am gettin ready and thinking about selling mine. i have a hunter and I think its great, there's no rust nothing wrong with it at all. Im just getting sick of it. after seeing a lot of runners ive seen here with out them... I think Im ready for a different look (i think)

and yes they're more for looks rather than protection and there's probably going to be more damage in a bigger crash but you'd be happy to have it for a small fender bender. Also there good for the idiots that dont know how to park and use your truck as a bump stop to know know when to stop.

There are plenty of uses for it but dont get it for primary armor

YEAH IM WITH HIM ^^^^
i like mine and think it looks funny without it. its good for pushing things, animals, people, and cars out of the way. not to say i dont want the pikeman bumper that i will get sometime soon but i do love the one i have for now. it gives it a lot more mean look and i dont like the just little tube bull bars that would only stop a coon from hitting the bottom of the bumper.

F**K next page. that didnt work.

and TRD, dude your tire looks really messed up in that pic

Ya its kind of ridiculous to compare a shrockworks bumper to a grill guard. Obviously a grill guard isnt meant for the same purpose a replacement steel bumper is. And nothing is going to protect your vehicle from severe damage in a high speed crash. Its exactly what its called, a guard. And for small impact stuff, like hitting a deer, a grill guard will help protect your bumper. If you like the way they look, I say get one. Im thinking of getting just a bull bar (not a full grill guard) for my 98, JUST for the look! And I have no expectations of it protecting my vehicle in a crash. The best strategy for crash protection is being a defensive driver :)

They don't call them brush guards for nothing. The other guys are right. The only thing that's going to protect you from a deer or a random snow drifter is a good tube or plate front bumper. If you were to hit either with a brush or grille guard, it's just going to push it into your radiator.

They are good for light mounting and for light trail protection. Just comes down to how much you want to spend, how much you want to change your front end and how much protection you are really looking for.

I was lucky, insurance payed for my bumpers, so I didn't really have a budget. Look at it this way, the damage that grill guard causes will pay for a shrockworks and more. :p

I mentioned in the beginning that if he wants something for protection, a real bumper is the way to go. You're right that they're incomparable.

I beg to differ about the crash results. This may not be extreme high speed, but by god is it one hell of a lot safer. And no, there was no frame damage.

And last time I checked, hitting deer was certainly not a small thing. I've seen entire front ends get destroyed if the collision was right. Brush guard or not.

While I do respect your opinion, if you like one, get one, but there are more reasons that most don't have one.

1. Diminished Approach Angle: Grille guards and bull bars stick so far down below the front bumper that you'd barely be able to go up a lot of stuff. If you tried to go up something too steep, hitting that brushguard support would bent that sucker right into your bumper/hood/etc. Lets face it, those supports cannot withstand a 4300lb+ truck and it's momentum against an obstacle.

Take this video for example, imagine how F-ed I'd have been:

2. Yes, we've all heard it, but damage damage damage. This LC went from a little bumper scrape to a $1,500 dent. As you can see, the bumper had a slight scrape. The brush guard was bent back to where the bumper begins. Now, Cost of brushguard, new fender, paint, fender flare extension, and paint for bumper.

Brush guards are Damage Multipliers

3. Unless you're really afraid of some brush, then I find it to be a negative, both in cost of actual purchase and then cost of damage. You may be the best driver since Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz made the first real automobile in 1886, but doesn't mean that when you're parked at the store that some idiot wont come bumping along in his beaten (somehow still running) 1988 Chevrolet Impala and donk your grille guard a new one.

We're not trying to go against you, we're trying to save you the hassle in the long run.

However, 4runit does make a good point :D I'm ordering my CBI today from insurance money ahaha
