I want a lift but parking garages are more important

Hey Guys,

I'm brand new to TR4 and in fact just bought my first 4runner not to long ago. It's a 97 limited, all stock, one owner, meticulously maintained. I bought this thing to basically be my urban assault vehicle here in the NW. Towing a trailer with a couple of quads, running up to the mountains to snowboard, camping in the woods, as well as road tripping. It's also my DD.

I just inherited some Sequoia 17" rims and conveniently I need new tires. I'm probably just going to go with some BFG A/T cause everyone speaks highly of them. I like the look of a bigger tire but I can't sacrifice the ability to go into any of the parking garages in downtown Seattle. The ride quality and all the perks of the Sonoran Steel 1.2 sounds the part, but here's my question: Can anyone on here tell me if they have issues getting in of your standard 6' 9" underground parking garages with a SS 1.2 and a pair of 275/70R17 or 285s?

Or would putting on the taller 99 springs alone give enough clearance for a bigger tire?

Can anyone on here tell me if they have issues getting in of your standard 6' 9" underground parking garages with a SS 1.2 and a pair of 275/70R17 or 285s?

J, no issues with my own SS 1.2 and 285s (and a WMW roof rack as well)

I think he was asking if putting a lift on his rig would negate his ability to pull into a parking garage/deck.

OP, I am 6'3 and the top of my rig is just over eye level with 2.5-3" of lift sitting on 265-75-15 tires.

You should be alright, I have a comparable lift on my 2nd gen, probably a bit taller with LC coils in the rear and BJs up front. I have no problem in Bellevue garages.

My garage door is 7' and I can squeeze in with SS 1.2 and 35" tires with the factory roof crossbars. I never actually measured to see how close I come to hitting the door, but it's gotta be pretty close.

I would say get what you want to get and maybe take off the roof rack.

Or just slap some 285's on it with no lift and "make 'em fit"

ok im at 3 inch lift, j kayak racks on top and a 5 ft firestick, my clearance is 8 ft 1 inch so yea....the only thing that dosent clear is the firestich and thats only once in a blue moon i dont fit.....you should be fine....its kinda like women say beauty dosent hurt?

I have SS 1.2 & 285s. I've never had a problem with ANY public garage.

Your house or apartment garage may be a different story.

I agree, no problems with any type of garage on 285's with 7 wrap rear coils. You will be fine. 285's would require tire spacers up front or offset wheels and a little cutting of the front plastic valence. My rear tires like to catch the rear bumper a little too but not enough for me to start cutting.
