Thanks for posting all the info on this lechec66! I was originally looking at the Pioneer 2400BT before I saw your posting earlier this week. Decided to spend a little extra and ordered the 4400BH as it had everything I was looking for. Shipped out from Crutchfield today! Was it hard to wire the Bluetooth Mic? I'm assuming it just runs up the inside panel that has the handle one it (not sure what panel that's called)?

That's how I did it. Where the A pillar cover meets the head liner you can use that to pinch/hold the mic cable tight, then just tuck it down the A pillar to the dash. I have a dash "tool" that I use to pry panels apart that really comes in handy, $8 at pep boys less of a chance to marr up the panels vs. a flat head screwdriver. Call Quality is much better with the mic mounted on the visor vs. the steering column which I tried as well.

Got my unit today and was working on the install. For the Metra Trim plates that Crutchfield sent free with the unit - Did you use the factory screws that were used ont he original radio? Or the ones that came with the Pioneer Head unit? The factory screw threads don't fit the head unit and the Pioneer ones are to short once you put the Metra trim piece on the side, so neither are working for me. I called Crutchfield and got nowhere - the guy recommended going to a hardware store and buying longer version of the Pioneer screws, so I might do that. Figured I'd ask you first and see if you had any problems with this.

I have nothing to add other than the suggestion to bring your head unit and the plates with you to the hardware store.
The last thing you wanna do at this point is to purchase screws that are too long for your install only to find out when it's too late and/ or after damage has been done.

There are 6 button head screws that work for the metro kit, that came with the pioneer kit. I used three per side.

LecheC66, when using the Motion X GPS Drive app did you buy the external display package? I am ordering the Pioneer AVH-P4400BH, and want the functionality you have in the picture. I am also getting the AXXESS unit for the steering wheel control. Are the directions clear, you mentioned the the wiring was a bit confusing. Your write up on this is awesome, you have been very helpful. Thanks

I did not buy the external display package. I'm using the $0.99 app and paid for the voice subscription of one year $9.99.
The directions for the axxess unit is fairly clear you will need to download the vehicle specific instructions from their website. If I remember correctly there are three wires from the harness you will need to tap into. If you get into trouble shoot me a pm
Hi lechec66, what exactly is the external display package? Got a link to explain what that is?
I like the overall setup of the HU in your truck, however I am not too crazy about having my iPhone also hooked up and visible on the dash. If the external package eliminates that I would be interested.
Please explain what this external display package is. Thanks!

Go to MotionX® | Welcome to MotionX for info. My understanding is the external display will allow you to perform basic functions with the headunit rather than having to use the iphone. My concern would be motion x uses your iPhones gps for signal I'm not sure how well it gps willwork if you tuck the phone in the glove box. Pretty easy experiment to do though.

I know this thread is kind of old, but did you have to hook up the USB AND the head phone jack plug into the back of the head unit. I find it really odd that Pioneer would put a USB extension in the box but when you hook it up, you cant use motion x...Am I wrong?

finally got the pioneer avh 4400bt hu...sound is decent with stock speakers...but am thinking of installing a subwoofer for better bass....any recommendations?..i got 3rd row sr5 05 runner
